Hi there. My (almost) 12-month-old twin boys and I are having a real disagreement about naps. They want to go down to 1 nap/day and I'm not sure they're ready. But they're wearing me down. Just wondering when other babies went down to one nap, whether both babies made the transition at the same time, how you knew it was time to change, and what time of day you chose as "nap time". Thanks so much for your help. I'm at the end of my rope.

Mine were 16 months, but I probably should have done it around 14/15 months. I'll push it earlier with Elizabeth b/c it is easier to be on a one nap schedule (although I LOVED two naps at the time!).

When summer came with my older kids....two naps just did not work in the schedule. So we pushed it to one

My boys are 18mo and they have always only had one nap a day. They sleep 12hrs a night and have one nap a day that's about 2-3hrs. When they were little babies they'd snooze in the bouncy or swing but they've been on one nap a day for as long as I can remember.

Mine switched to one at 19 months and now just recently started to nap for 1.5 hours, they have always been 45 minute nappers.

Mine are 16 months and still take two naps a day. During their am nap, they talk and play a lot before finally falling asleep. I'd try to cut it out, but they still clearly need it or at least "quiet time" in their cribs. They start acting real fussy, I ask them if it's time for a nap and they happily walk over the the bottom of the stairs! Hey, who am I to keep them from what they want? :winking0009:

The funny thing is, they go to a sitter 4 days a week and only nap once there. This is probably because she has anywhere from 1-3 other kids at the same time. She's actually able to get them to nap on a mat in the playroom with the door open! I can't get over this. They probably cut the 2nd nap at the sitter's at 14 months.

I thought for sure they'd adopt their one nap a day routine at home too, but so far, it hasn't happened.

ps: I didn't vote b/c mine are still napping twice a day for the 3-4 days/week.

Mine switched at 16 months. We pushed them by getting out every morning, and having an early lunch until they were able to make it to noon. They went from 2 2hour naps to one 3-4 hour nap, so they slept about the same amount of time, just in one shot instead of two.

Mine switched over to one nap around 19/20 months. Ali started fighting the second nap and would scream almost everyday so I just switched them. We got up at their regular wake up time of about 8-8:30 and they went in for their nap after lunch at about 1:30 and would sleep for 3-3.5 hours. The schedule is still the same now but I wake them up at 4 or they won't go to sleep at night.

Mine were around 10-11 months (the twins) - and yes I always had them on the same feeding/sleeping schedules from the time they came home (schedule nazi). My son was probably around the same age - I can't remember exactly tho.

Mine switched to one nap at 18 months. My dd would have been ready earlier, but ds still needed two naps. So I sort of worked around his schedule, some days my dd would take two, others only one. Now they are both on one nap, for about 2-3 hours. My dd just doesn't need as much sleep as ds. :pardon:

I couldn't vote because (to answer your second question) my girls did not transition to 1 nap at the same time. Arwen was definately ready for one nap only by 12 months (of course, I was not ready but what could I do). Lorien wasn't ready until she was about 14.5 months. Once they were both on one nap a day, I was able to have a little more sanity. It actually started to make my life easier. With one nap a day, I had time to do things in the morning and/or the afternoon. I know how hard it can be but not all babies are big time sleepers. Mine have always needed less sleep than some other babies I know. My girls have NEVER slept for more than 11 hours but usually 10.5 has always been plenty enough sleep for them. They were also never 2-3 hour nappers. Once in a while I will get 2 hours out of them but usually it's 1.5. GL with however you decide to handle it. The only thing that got me through the two different nap times was to just take advantage of having some real one on one time with each of them. It was actually pretty nice and only having one baby at a time is a huge break in itself ;)

Mine switched over at 13 months. I think that may have been related to the fact that we were on vacation though and there was so much excitement that two naps was just un-doable. I think they might have made it another 1-2 months with 2 naps.

Dax is still very much in the 2-nap phase but he can make do on one nap if he wakes up late in the morning.

My oldest was 18 months, we skipped it from one day to another. I plan to do the twins at the same day too. They're still on 2, and need it on most days (they won't nap when they go to day care 2 mornings a week). I think I'll make it until at least April ... and then before the summer (they'll turn 18 months end of May), we'll drop it all together.

Weissbluth always told me between 15-18 months.

Mine were around 15 months, only because that is when I went back to work and the daycare they started going to only did one nap a day. My girls transitioned pretty well.

I started the transition around 14 months or so and it took about 8+ weeks to get them set. DD was ready, but DS wasn't quite there yet. He was having a few days a week where he wasn't napping as well, but for the most part was sleeping for both. It was important to me that they both be on the same nap schedule, so my transition was 3 days a week of one nap, 4 days two naps for a long time, and just slowly dropped a day until they were completely changed over. Now they nap from 11-2 everyday.

mine never took 2 naps....we've eventually made the nap later in the day (used to be at 10 am its now moved to 12:30 or so and they sleep anywhere from 1-3 hours....

At about 13 months we switched to one nap because of eldest son's school schedule. It originally was 10:30-1, and now it has moved to 12:30-3. My oldest stays at the extended day program now so my twins can sleep longer. They are a lot happier with this one later nap.
