When did your babies discover their hands?

    Hi,

My boys are 4 months now and I hoped that by now they will stare at the hands, as the book says, but it didn't happen.

When did your babies discover their hands, like looking at them? They are chewing them and grabbing the toys I pun on their tummy, but I don't think that they realize what they are doing.

Do you know if there is a way to help them develop this skill?

    Thanks

If they are chewing on them then they must sort of be aware of them, right? Just give it time, they'll notice them.

I'm not sure if they really discovered them before but my DD is 7 months and she LOVES looking at her hands. She turns them around - looks at them like she's on something. LOL I think they just do it on their own.

I agree with Aimee, if they are grabbing things they must be aware of them. I always just dangled toys in front of them so they could reach out & touch them. We also had one of those play gym things that they layed under & could bat the toys around. Sounds like they are doing great!

My babies grab toys and play with them, but I have yet to notice them staring at their hands. I was wondering about this too . . .

I agree it is great that they are reaching out and grabbing things, they must be aware they have them to some extent. I noticed these last few wks Amber has become very aware of her hands and feet i.e looking at them and touching them..not sure when this is supposed to happen though. I haven't noticed Ruby looking at hers yet but she is reaching out and eating her hands so i'm not worried. I would just continue giving them lots of different things to play with and reach for, they sound like they are doing wonderfully!

    Thanks for your replays.

They are great babies and they are progressing each passing day. But the books I read or the internet are driving me nuts because they say that by this age they should do this and that, and they aren't doing that yet.

I put a lot of toys on their tummies, I put a rattle in their hands and even I try to show them their hands:) Maybe I should be more relaxed:) I guess I'm anxious to see them reaching new milestones:)
