when did you transition from 3 to 2 naps?

What age were your twins when they starting taking 2 naps a day rather than 3? How did you make the transition.

I currently put my 6 month olds down for three naps a day and they nap horribly - (one does nap better than the other and ushually takes at least 2 good ones - for her sister though almost all naps are difficult) I'm just wondering if they really should be napping less now and how to go about making this change.

    Thanks!

Mine dropped the 3rd nap about a month ago. It was a gradual thing. One day they'd definitely need that 3rd nap & the next day they were not going to sleep no matter what I did. Now they'll take a 3rd nap every once in a while, but for the most part they are fine without it. We just let them lead us (probably because we're first time parents & have no idea what we're doing!).

At 9 months we dropped the 3rd cat nap. I napped them at the same time in the morning when they were doing 3 and then gradually moved back the 2nd nap to 1pm. But once they dropped that third nap they went to bed at 5:30 pm since they just couldnt stay awake a minute more. It took about 3 more months to get their bedtime back too. GL!

Mine gradually dropped the 3rd nap (one day they would take it, the next they wouldn't, and so on) between 7 - 8 months. :) I just went by their cues - if I put them down and they were still awake talking after 10-15 minutes (for the 3rd nap), I would go get them. It happened more often as they got closer to 8 months - and eventually I just decided they obviously didn't need that 3rd nap any more.

Good luck! And I hope they start napping better - my boys' naps really fell into place around 7 months. :)

we are in the middle of sometime yes sometimes no… on the 3rd nap… and sometimes its only one… yesterday I put both down… I had a feeling Seth didn’t need it, Nate was out FAST… Seth was in there talking to his glow worm… offering him one of his many binkies… so after 20 min I snuck in and let him come out to play… 20 min later Nate woke… but today, both were fine w/out it

9-10 months for us. Once that 3rd nap went away though we also moved up to an earlier bedtime.
    Now we sleep from 7pm-630am.
Naps at 9a & 1pm (give or take).

We are the blind following the blind. :) We let the babies pretty much dictate things and thus far going with the flow has worked really well for us. We dropped the 3rd nap around 9 months. Though even now some days if we have really tuckered them out they catnap around the same time as the 3rd nap used to be, but we don't typically put them down for it unless they are just unruly and out of sorts.

We dropped ours at around 7.5-8 months. They have always been good nappers and I realized that the last nap was a hit or miss. The days that they missed their first nap for some reason (Church, errands) then they napped great for the next two. So I realized that they needed two and could do without a third. It took about a month for them to adjust - Michael was really fussy at night, so sometimes I would give him a nap - but then they did fine.

We moved the bedtime up a bit and now they sleep longer at night. We go from about 7:30pm-9am and they nap at 11 and 3.

7:30 until 9 sounds amazing, and so much sleep. How long are the two naps?

mine woke up at 5:30 today and i'm exausted! I'd love to get them to sleep later in the mornings..

Personally just ditching the third nap would not have worked, I had to move back the other two naps so they were never up longer than 3.5 hours. Otherwise they would have been up from 2pm to 7pm... Yikes.

We're working through it now. Yesterday was the first day they didn't get the 3rd nap, and they stayed awake from 3.15 until 7.30pm when they went to bed. No one seems worse for wear without it. We'll probably have to do one today though, as their naps are screwed up as they both fell asleep in their jumperoos this morning!!

    They are 8 months.

OH gosh.. I don't know if I am envious.. I've been down to basically one nap for what seems like FOREVER! But.. it is about 3 hours long! It all depends on what time the little guy gets up, which is often 8-9am. I know the twins were on two naps past their first birthday.

Mine went two naps at 6 months, no matter what they would not take a 3rd nap, so we dropped it at that age. They are still on 2 naps now.

We're at the same point. Whether or not they get a third nap depends on how long their first two naps are. If they have two 1 hour naps, they need a third, but if the naps are 1.5-2 hours each they don't need another one. However, if they don't have a third nap, they go to bad earlier--about 6:30 opposed to between 7 and 7:30.
