When did you tell work?

    Hi All,

Just wondering when you told work (how far along were you?) and if your timing was influenced by having twins. If so, did this lead you to announce earlier or later? I know some of you had later notifications that it was twins but for those of you who knew, did you tell them it was twins at the same time?

I am planning on telling work on Friday and I'll be 13 wks, 4 days but am starting to feel nervous. I really want to do it because I feel like it will be so nice to just let that secret out, I won't have to worry about what people might be suspecting and they'll have lots of notice, especially if I need to make an early exit. By the same token, once the word is out it's out and if anything goes wrong, it won't be private. Plus, some of my friends delayed telling work to 16 or 18 weeks so it's made me wonder if i'm doing it too early and should try and keep things under wraps(literally-though this is tough in the summer). So, what did you do and would you do anything differently if you could? Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

I was teaching when I was pregnant with my twins. I told my principal when I was around 13w, I was starting to show so people were wondering. Around 20 weeks I told her what my plans were...to stop teaching at spring break when I would have been about 35 weeks pregnant. Well that all changed when I delivered early anyway. But it was nice that we had already talked about me being out and choices for a long term sub since I ended up going early.

I told them I was pregnant when I was about 8 weeks. I didn't want to tell that early (especially because I had had a miscarriage at 9w the previous year), but everyone knew we had been trying, and I was starting to show. (Not because of the babies, who were still the size of quarters, but because I couldn't stop eating.)

I told them it was twins at 14w, when someone flat-out asked me. Even people who had never been pregnant knew I was too big for 14 weeks. (Again, it was the eating, not necessarily the babies.)

Still waiting to tell my boss because he is out of town. In the past though I told after third month and folks were supportive. It wasn't twins then though.

I had to tell very early (basically as soon as I found out) because I worked in an office where I had to take x rays and other possible hazards for growing unborn babies. With the twins it was right at 5 weeks. I told them it was twins then too.

I told the one girl I worked very closely with when I was 11 weeks. We had an upcoming event the week later and I was not going to be able to do the lifting I had previously done.
I told everyone else (boss first) around 15-16 weeks. Some people guessed before I told them.
My plan was to wait until I really had to tell people and that's what I did.

I found out I was pregnant at 6weeks, and wasn't going to say anything until I was 12-14weeks, except I was surprised at 8 weeks with twins! I told them the next day! I would let them know early, because you don't know when you will be put on bed rest or anything of the sort.

I told work last week after my 11 week scan came back good. It was good timing because I am definitely pooching out a bit this week and would rather not have people gossiping about it. I figure anytime at/near the beginning of the 2nd trimester is good because I figure my risks are about the same of something happening now as they would be of something happening much later.

I work in a small company and we are like a family here, we are 4 people in the office. We had to do IVF so everyone knew because of my countless appointments, and of course, as soon as I found out that IVF workeed, I told everybody, I can't keep stuff like that in, it's not in my nature :). Also as soon as I found out it was twins I told everybody - people were making bets for twins :) anyway. Luckily for me I didn't have to go on bedrest, but I warned them that it can happen, and people were really helpful and understanding. In my opinion, do what you feel it's best according to your type of job and your coworkers. Just do what stresses you the least, you don't need an extra reason to stress.

Thanks for sharing your experiences and perspectives everyone. I am going to go ahead and tell my boss as planned tomorrow. I'm nervous but feel like it's the right thing for me at this point. Wish me luck!

    Hi All,

Just wanted to let you know I told my boss on Friday and it went great! She was lovely and supportive and really nice about it. I feel so relieved to have this over with but also sad to be losing the intimacy of having a secret with my hubby. We're going to find out the sexes so maybe we'll keep that a secret for a while too... Thanks for sharing your stories.

I told a few coworkers around 8 weeks and then told my principal at 9 weeks. I told him it was twins at the same time. I kept him in the loop after certain doctor appointments and ended up giving him about 3 weeks warning (my BP had been going up and up) before I was put on bedrest. That helped as he was able to figure out who he wanted as my long term sub and talk to her before hand and didn't have to find someone last minute. I think it helped the transition.
