When did you take down bed rails?

Annie is 4 and has been in a twin bed with 2 bed rails since she was two. I'm just wondering when we should try without them; it's pretty high up, but I know she can't sleep with them forever! There's no need to get rid of them, the other babies are in cribs and we have toddler beds for them.

    Thanks!

I have a son that will be 5 in June and I think that he will need them until he gets married......LOL......he actually does laps around the bed. I more than once have seen him half hanging half over the rail (quite high rail) and had to put him safely back in bed.

He has 4 older brothers and none of them needed a rail......so I would say, it totally depends on the child and their needs, if there is no need for her to get rid of them, and she is not bothered by them, why ruin a good thing.

I agree with the pp, that it depends on the person. I had bed rails on the girls beds (they also had twin beds) for about 1-2 mths and then took them off. My girls were playing with them to much and tried taking them off of the bed so I took them off (they were also annoying when trying to change the sheets). Kira fell out of the bed twice and Katrina fell out once but they were fine just cried real quick I put them back in bed and they were asleep again and haven't fallen out since. They were about 27mths when they were in beds and I took the bed rails away less than 2mths later. Katrina is a come sleeper and doesn't move around a lot and Kira moves around some so I always check on her before I go to bed to make sure she isn't going to fall out.

I didn't put rails on my kids' beds. When they moved out of cribs, I just put a couple pillows on the floor in case they fell out.

Well, initially we didn't use rails but after my son fell out of his twin bed twice the first night we put him in we bought rails. That said, we took them down about 6 months later and have had no issues.

We didn't take my oldest DD's down until she was 5. She moves around a lot when she sleeps. Sometimes she will even ask for them to be put back on, we don't put them back on though.

We didn't use bedrails either and the girls' beds are really high up. I was so afraid of them falling out but my DH said they didn't need them because they would never learn how to sleep without them so I didn't put them on. Kaitlyn fell out once, but that has been it. They have had the beds for over a month now. I do tuck them in really well though so maybe that helps them from falling out.

Maybe we'll try taking down one just to see what happens. Thanks for the input. [IMG]
