we tried powder formula early on and it gave one of our boys bloody diapers. the ped told us to stay on liquid for awhile until they're digestive systems are more mature. any thoughts on when we might try powder again? we just switched from enfamil to similac sensitive and we're still trying to get through constipation. i'm hoping the constipation will work itself out (no pun intended) after being on the new formula for a week or so? i'd hate to switch them over again from liquid to powder if it will mess with their systems but i think we'll get more sleep when we're not heating up the bottles before each feeding. they won't eat fridge/cold formula until it is heated....

let me know if any of you have been through this too?

I'm not sure that this will be helpful to you or not, so hopefully some other Moms have some suggestions. We tried to switch from ready to feed formula to powdered formula and our kiddos just did not go for it. It might have been the age we tried it at, we tried at 4 months. Since your pediatrician recommended the liquid kind, it might also be a good idea to check with the pedi first as well. Good luck!

We had reflux and we used the liquid RTF formula because it was thicker and binded to the cereal better to help with the reflux. Once I felt like it was under control then I went to powder maybe around 4 months or so.

actually RTF was too rich for our kids and made them spit up worse - they were on powder from day 1

I would talk to your pedi about it. We switched to powder right when we came back from the hospital ... the RTF was too expensive! But we had no issues with it ...

We were on powder from the beginning also. Is Similac Sensitive the equivalent to Enfamil Gentlease?

Mine were never really on the liquid formula. My MIL [nurse] had given us a few cases, but we just used it mixed in with the powder formula [the same kind]. Maybe it's not the 'liquid' formula you should be worried about, maybe it's the kind of formula. Though I'd double check with the pedi. There might be some other reason for the blood in the stool.

We switched to powder at 2 weeks (pretty much when we ran out of what the hospital gave us). Maybe it's the kind of formula that is the problem and not the fact that it's powder?

We switched to powdered formula at about 3 months. We first switched to Similac and that constipated them bad so we switched back and then switched again to Target Brand!!! Talk about messing with their little digestive systems but they eventually worked it out and have done great on the powder. It is a whole lot cheaper, but not really a lot easier for us because we make a pitcher of formula in advance, pour bottles to the precise amount we want and then still have to warm it though. Warming around here takes all of about 3 minutes - we fill a cup with hot water, put the bottle in the cup while we are changing their diapers and it is ready to go once we are done!
