Just a quick question for you ladies. I am 22 weeks tomorrow, and I am thinking of stopping at 27 weeks. The heat is killing me, it's been over a 100 for 2 weeks now. I am up at 6am, get ready for work, get my son up, start his day, change him get his breakfast ready, then I get my Dh up, he works long hours. I am on the bus by 7 am, at work by 7:30 I work till 4:30, pick up my son from daycare at 5:30 do supper, bed and bath routine, dishes and laundry, and by 8 pm I am exhausted. Not to mention I drag my butt pretty much all day at work. Just curious as to when everyone else stopped or plans on stopping?

It sounds as if you are ready!!! I worked in the office during my pregnancy so I was going from A/C to A/C and didn't spend a lot of time outside during the hot summer months. I had an ideal pregnancy (although I know now that anything could have happened without any notice) and worked until I delivered at 38 weeks. You do have to go by what you are feeling. It sounds as if you have a very good goal!

I work in an office in AC too. I think its the commute that is killing me. Being on a bus when its 100 degrees out that is packed like a can of sardines......yuck

With my twins, I worked in the office until like 29 weeks. But I did not have any other children. I drove about half hour each way, but after work I didn't have anyone to attend to. I just came home and climbed into bed. At 29 weeks I started having lots of BH contractions, so my doc didn't want me driving anymore (I had like a 40 minute commute, each way). But my work was great and let me work from home full time. So I technically worked until 34 weeks (gave birth at 36w3d).

With my 2nd set, I worked in the office until 32 weeks. But I did work from home 3 days a week, and only in the office 2 days. It was a little harder this time, as I had my 2.5 year old twins at home, but my DH and sister picked up my slack. With the 2nd set I gave birth at 38w3d.

Try and listen to your body. If you are feeling rundown, then leave work early. It's amazing how nice the laying around all day is!

I worked in an office, had a normal pregnancy, and was mostly pregnant in the fall/winter in Ohio so I didn't have to deal with the heat. I worked until 35 weeks. Definitely talk to your doctor though because they stop a lot of women earlier.

I worked until 32 weeks. :good: BUT everyone is different and you know your body best, so go with what it's telling you. I also didn't have another child to take care of and I'm sure that played a big part in things.  Definately talk to your doctor.

I stopped working in my 29th week. I had planned on working longer but my DH wanted me out. He's a worrier. A trip to the hospital with BH contractions is what finally did it. That gave my doc the reason they needed so I would still get disability.

My BH have already started. I get them at night though, and I know its most likely because I am done too much. Donevan is 21 months, so I still pick him up quite a bit, I know a no no, but I am home alone most of the time. The fact that he weighs 32lbs prob doenst help either. I will def talk to my doc at my next appointment. Thanks girls.

I used to wonder when I would stop too, but then my company downsized and eliminated my job when I was like 22 weeks or so- made the decision for me! And it has been a HUGE blessing, now that I've been home a couple of months I can't even imagine if I'd been working. And I just worked in an office, but between the commute, and getting up early and getting ready, and stress...I don't think I could have done it much longer.

See, I just don't know what my doctor will say. I don't know if I need a letter that stats that I want to go off early or what?! I'm hoping that I can leave at 30 weeks. I'm doing perfectly fine (knock on wood). No issues to speak of as of yet so i'm not sure if my doctor will think that I just want out of work for no good reason? But work is VERY stressful!!! I work in a fast paced and demanding job. I may only work at a computer, but its still a lot to do in a day. Plus, taking care of my 13 month old son and cleaning and all that stuff...I would hate for these babies to come early just because i'm over doing it! I am my sisters MOH while I will be just shy of 36 weeks...they HAVE to stay put until then!

I am still working now as I speak at 32 weeks. My Dr had been telling me he wanted to pull me out of work between 30-32 weeks and after last week he said make your last day Friday.I would have been fine with it except for the fact I cant be out of work this long plus its just desk job but it would be hard to do alot of it from home. He comprimised and starting this past Monday I am doing 5 hour shifts instead of 8 1/2. IT helps and we will see after my appoint this coming Monday what he says. I think it just depends on you and your body. Your body will let you know when its time. Last week I began really feeling it working 8 hour days and feel much better doing 5 hour days right now.

I dont know how it works in Ontario, but in Quebec my doc will write me a letter stating that I am to be off work and collect IE until my maternity leave, due to whatever reason. Could be complications, health reasons. When I was pregnant with Donevan I was off from 22 weeks due to my asthma.

Slipper - yeah, Ontario is the same way, but i'm just not sure how easy my doctor is to write notes for health issues that aren't there...ya know?

Anyone carrying twins in Sweden is put on sick leave sometime between v24 and v27 automatically. I am a high school teacher, so I am off during the summers, I was put on sick leave last week when the term started up I was 26+2 then. I'm so glad because even though I haven't had any complications yet, I am so tired, I recognize myself in your thread. :lazy:

37 weeks. But I had a sit down, minimal stress job. Everyone is different. Listen to your body and do what is best for you and those babes!!

    Good Luck!

I was planning to work (teach) until I was 32-33 weeks, but that changed when I went to a routine appt. at 24w and found out if was dilating and then I was put on bedrest. Everyone is so different.

  18. I stopped at 26 weeks because it was killing me. I am a counselor and I was so out of breath I could not carry on a conversation with my clients. I am now doing a little work on the side, but I am not sure how much longer I will be able to keep that up because sitting up is uncomfortable and I end up feeling like I am going to pass out/vomit after sitting there for a while.

I stopped working at 23 weeks. I stood all day at work and by the time my doctor put me on medical leave I was down to working 5 hours and even that was too much. I have alot of problems with my legs though this pregnancy too. It was too much to work on my feet all day and then come home to the demands of a very rambunctious 5 year old.

I had 4 weeks of vacation so I took those starting at 28 weeks and then got put on sick leave at 32 by my OB. Best thing I ever did. I honestly don't know how I made it that long at work even though I worked in an office. Same as you as in getting up early and being run ragged caring for other kids after work. It's still very hard caing for my 14 month old at this point but I'm glad I don't have work on top of that too!! Now I'm at the point where I could not work at all there's just now way. Good luck!!!! You deserve time to rest your body for sure! (My doc says they pull twin pregnancies out of work between 28 and 30 weeks usually here.)

I stopped at 32 weeks due to PTL, but my OB says he will take me off disability (possibly this week or next) and then technically I can go back to work. Which is laughable b/c there is no way I can possibly work at this stage. Likely between 37-38 weeks I will be off disability and just use vacation time b/c it isn't like my manager is going to pull people out of my shifts and put me in, only to have me call out b/c of labor! Hoping I can talk some sense into him...

I went off at 26weeks but I used up a pile of my banked sick days even though I was entitled to disability through EI.

My Dr told me that a twin pregnancy is automatically considered as "health issues" for disability (he specializes in twin and high risk pregnancies so he'd know). Also FYI your 2 week wait will probably be waived if you go on disability first (every penny counts right) Don't wait too long though because I think there's a cut off point where you'd have to start your mat. leave rather than go on disability.

Robyn, just curious, here in Ontario are you?

To the OP I too was chasing around a 30lb+ toddler during my pregnancy if you can afford it quit work soon (especially with having to ride the bus!) Best thing I ever did was leave work and keep her going to daycare a couple of days a week.

    Good luck!

I am thinking of going off at my next appointment, I will be 27 weeks, so I can still collect EI. I was on it while pregnant with my son, and they do waive the 2 week waiting period. So I figure I have about 5 weeks left of work, and I have one of those weeks off. So 1 month left. Not so bad. Donevan will continue going to daycare full time. He is subsidized, and in order for me to be able to keep his place he has to go full time. I pay $35.00 a week for his daycare. I am not willing to loose that, and he loves going.

Wow! You are soo lucky to live in Canada! You have so many great benefits!
I still feel okay working right now, because I pretty much have a desk job, but this Arizona heat is killing me. I'm hoping to work until October. Hopefully, I'll make it :)

I worked until 36 weeks. I had a 4 yr old at home so I know how exhausting it is with all the extra stuff you have to do. I had an office job though. Believe me that last week I was at home without working was pure HEAVEN! I also found that the extreme exhaustion would come and go. Maybe you will have some better weeks ahead of you still.

I worked until the day I delivered at 38 weeks and worked from home the final two weeks. I submitted a final project the morning of my scheduled c-section. My whole family was waiting for me downstairs to go to the hospital and I was at my computer saying hold on, I just need to get this out... lol!

I wouldn't have been able to do it if I were in a job where I was on my feet all day though. Luckily I have a sit-down job and could go the distance. Do what you feel is right for you - every pregnancy is different!
