..and how many weeks early were they? My girls are now 5 months and were 7 weeks early. My pedi said she will probably start them on cereal this month. At our 4 month appt, she told us to go from feeding every 3 hours to every 4. So they now get fed 7 ounces 4 times a day so 28 ounces total. I've noticed they spit up a lot now and I'm wondering if they are getting too much liquid and need to start on solids.

Ours were only 5 weeks premature, but I slowed way down on the solid schedule. I was in no hurry because they just didn't seem ready at the magic 4 months. We went real slow, and I kept their bottle smaller and more frequent until a couple of weeks ago. Whenever I would try to go the 4 hours, we would just panic and it wasn't worth it. We were getting lots of spit up too whenever I increased the volume.

I say the first month or so is just getting used to the spoon and the idea of it.

I started mine on rice cereal at 5 months old and they were 9 weeks early. The solids absolutely did not help with the spit up though, although I sure hoped that it would. Lower volume bottles more often help our spit up situation.

mine were 4 weeks early and I started right at 4 months - mine still eat (whether it be a bottle or a solid) every 3 to 3 and a half hours - any more than that and they have a meltdown! And solids did not help my son with barf either...I'm convinced some babies (barring a diagnosis of reflux) are just pukers - my son spits like a fountain and eats and gains like a piggy - I can count the number of times on one hand that my daughter has really had a good barf and she's still very petite...

Mine were 3 months early and we started cereal at 5 months. Usually our pedi. starts at 4 months. It was very liquidy at first and just practice, but by 6 months they were pros. Like PP said, it did not help with the spit up. Do your girls have reflux?

We started solids at 6 months (3 months adjusted) and then pretty much followed all of the ACTUAL months for introducing foods. The doctor said that even for preemies that you can introduce things- so at 9 months he gave us the "go" for pretty much all foods except for nuts and chocolate. We are having chocolate for the first time this weekend at our birthday party!!!

Mine were 6 weeks early and I started my b twin at 5 1/2 months and my g twin at 6 1/2 months. I wanted to hold off my g twin because she had some digestive problems when she was first born and I just wanted her system to have a little more time before introducing her to solids. She actually took better to it. She eats like a pro and wants everything we are eating. She is still just on rice cereal. I am going to move her slowly through the foods. He brother is the puker and he still pukes even with solids. I can’t give him more the 6 oz bottles or he is a mess.
