When did you start a real "bedtime"?

Sorry I keep popping in here, you would think I never had a baby before! It was only three years ago, but I can't remember what we did.

Caleb is just over three weeks, and we're still pretty much eat/sleep on demand. No real routine. He eats about every 2.5 hrs. Still sleeping mostly in the carrier or bouncer, he seems to be lost in the crib and doesn't like to be put in there. I did just get a Miracle Blanket, but I've only tried it once and he didn't seem all that thrilled. So right now what we do, is I have a bed in the nursery, and Caleb and I go in there around 10-11. DH goes to bed. Then I try to catch a little sleep in between feedings and DH takes over around 5-6am, and I get to sleep maybe two hours before the girls are up. Anyway, I'm exhausted! Caleb likes to fall asleep on me, then I set him down. Sometimes this takes a while to get him back to sleep. I didn't know if actually putting him to bed at some set time would start establishing day and night, and just maybe, he would go back to sleep a little easier? I really don't remember when we started "bedtime" with the girls, but I remember them sleeping in their carriers too for like the first couple months.

We started a nighttime routine at about 6wks old - wash up or bath, lotion, pjs and a song. We didn't always put them to bed after that though because they were both kind of colicky. A official bedtime did start to emerge and changed over the months, at 6wks old they were going to bed at around 10pm, at 2 months it was more like 8pm, at 4mnths it was around 6pm, and ever since about 5mnths old they go to bed between 530-6pm

Immediately with the twins... it was 7:40. Evan on the other hand varied a lot! Now it is pretty solid at about 7:15/30.

Hey! You're allowed in here! You're a mommy of a new baby, that makes you eligible for the "First Year".

We didn't set a bedtime until they started sleeping through the night, around 4.5 months. But in reading this forum for so long, I can tell that I don't think I was the norm.

Do you have HSHHC? He talks a lot about bedtimes and routines, etc. I found it VERY helpful.

We started our nighttime routine about 8 weeks. Once they started sleeping for a longer stretch at night (and by longer, I mean more than 2 hours).

Kelly, you are always welcome to post in FY. You have a beautiful little man there!

Hi Kelly :wavey:. Stop in any time! We started with bottle, bath, bed at just shy of 6 weeks. Their bedtime was 9pm then. We pushed it back to 7pm at 3 months. HTH :).

I started bed time for my girls as soon as I got the "go ahead" from the pedi to stop waking them for night feedings - I think at their 2 week appointment. The only difference at night was after the 9 pm feeding they went straight to bed after eating without any play time first, and I went to bed.

Thanks ladies! I truly cannot remember what we did with the girls, although I vaguely remember putting them to bed around 3 months maybe? We did no routine with them, and I want to change that this time.
