Hi! Samuel and Grace are quickly approaching their 1st B-day (Feb 2). They are 19 lb 8oz and 19 lb even and are both around 27 in. I was looking at getting them new car seats for their b-day, then I got thinking how will I transport them once they are out of the infant seats??? (Keep in mind I also have a 2 yr old DD with me) [IMG]

So my question is, how long can I keep them in the infant seats safely?? I would like to leave them there as long as possible to make it easier on me getting them back and forth to where ever we are going, but I don't EVER want to comprimise safety. Thanks for any help!

PS - mods, this may need to go in 1-5 year forum. I wasn't sure where to start it.

you have to look at your carseat guidlines to see what the size limit is. i dont know if there is a "law" about when to switch...you just need to make sure about the size.

now, about transporting them - this is what i have started doing. i also have a 2yo. i have 1 cheapo umbrella stroller. i put one baby in the stroller, hold the other and let my 2yo walk (a lot of times, my 2yo actually wants to push the stoller which is very helpful). i live in apartment and have to park on the street so i can't really leave one in the car and move one at a time like some do with their own driveway - kwim? i made the switch to convertalbe seats at christmas only because my boys were killing my back carrying them in the seats. so far, this is working pretty well. We moved our girls from the infant seats into rear-facing convertible seat over Christmas. They had outgrown the length requirement for their infant seats. Our seats were for up to 22lbs or 29 inches. No matter which seat you use, remember they have to be rear-facing until they are a year old and at least 20 lbs.

I am moving my girls out of their infant seats sometime this month. They haven't grown out of it yet, but they are so heavy when they are in it that it is killing my back. Plus they hate to be in the infant seat in the stroller, so that convenience no longer exists for us. They want to see what is going on!

Check your car seat and/or manual. Our has the height/weight limit right on the side of it (for ours it is 22 pounds or 29 inches). I cannot imagine lugging them around in that thing when they weigh 22 pounds - they are killing me at 17.5 pounds!

I don't have a toddler though. If I did, I might keep them in there as long as I could and they'd just have to deal with being in the infant seat in the stroller. [IMG]

Our carseats went up to 20 lbs or 26 inches. Since Ben was both of those by 4.5 months, we switched both kids then.

I would go by what your infant car seat guidelines are. Since your kids are probably already sitting up, it should be a fairly easy transition. And it gets even easier when they start walking.

Our Graco snugrides go up to 22lbs and 29 inches. My twins are not at that weight yet, but I'm sure my son will be 29 inches at his one year old appt. in Feb (as he was 27in. at 9 months). So I will proabably be moving them then. I also have an older daughter and am not sure how I will transport them all once they are out of the carriers.
