When did you move them from crib to bed?

Discussion in 'The Toddler Years(1-3)' started by three_precious_girls, Nov 10, 2007.

I have two relatives that are waiting for my two cribs... I would like to give them to them, but when should I move the girls into their own beds? I am fortunate enough to have two awesome twin beds for them, but I dont want to move them too soon. When did you make the transition from crib to bed?

We waited until they were almost 2 1/2. They were ready at that point. Good luck!

Mine are still in their cribs. The cribs convert into twin sized beds, but with another one on the way.. one of them will stay a crib. They don't climb out yet. They're fine in them so far!

We haven't made the switch yet. My girls love their cribs! Right now the cribs are totally working for us, so I am in the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" mode. Of course, I don't have anyone who needs my cribs, so I have no special incentive to hurry anything along. If all continues to go well, I probably won't switch them until around their 3rd birthday, which has always sort of been the target in the back of my mind.

I am usually in the minority, but it worked for us.

Matt was 15 months, Mila, 22 months, Zach 17 and Hannah 18 (or Zach was 16 and Hannah 18). With the exception of Zach, none of the other kids were an issue. I was more worried than necessary and the transition went really well. Zach wasn't really all that bad, he just would get out of bed and bug his older brother (it was a lot of fun for him and trauma for Matt). Now, we put Matt to bed later and there have been no issues since that change. None fo my kids gave up naps either.

For us, early was great as they did not really know that they could even get out of bed and it hadn't turned into a game before the switch. I am sure you will get a lot of 2 1/3 - 3 replies. It all depends on what works for you and your kids.

We moved our girls to toddler beds just around their second birthday. They made the transition well. Personally though I wouldn't move them into beds just because someone was waiting for your cribs. Wait until you are sure that they are ready to be moved. How old are your twins?

My boys were ready just shy of their 2nd birthday.

We just did it about 3 weeks ago. They were 2 years old on Nov. 1st. Michael had a rough time, he kept rolling out of the bed. Now he is staying in the bed, but it has taken him about 3 weeks. Mikayla doesn't like her bed, and insists on sleeping in her co-sleeper!! I have tried to put her in her bed each night but she ends up sleeping with Michael on his bed, and they DO not sleep when they are together. They giggle and jump on the bed until 9 at night!! So I have to separate them and Mikayla goes into DH's office in the co-sleeper!

A month before her 2nd birthday. She was/is an excellent sleeper and transitioned very easily.

Not till they were 2.5. We were going on vacation & they would be sleeping in beds where we were going.

When I first read your post I thought you didn't move Zach and Hannah to beds until they were 17 and 18 years old!!!! :rotflmbo:
    I really need more sleep!

I think, if I am reading right, your babies were born sometime in 2007. I'd definitely wait until they were at least two, if not older.

I am going to keep my girls in their cribs as long as I can.

We converted their cribs to toddler beds at a little older than 2 1/2. It was basically a non-event for us.

Well if I read your siggy right and they were born this year I would think you have a while to wait, they would be way to young to move now not to mention dangerous...Mine will be 2 in December and I have no plans of moving them until sometime next year probably between 2.5-3 years old.

We just switched from cribs to toddler beds, although I would have preferred to wait until they were 3. Last Wednesday, they BOTH climbed out of their cribs and that same day we transitioned to beds. It hasn't gone too smoothly as they have not yet napped in the beds at all. Naptime is now their playtime and I haven't found a way to keep them in their beds. Nighttime is a little better but my dd usually falls out off bed at least once a night (we pad the floor with pillows but she stills cries and wants me to put her back in her bed). Plus the other night, both of them came creeping into our bedroom at 3:30 a.m. thinking they were going to be up for the day.

I'm hoping once the newness wears off, they will resume napping because I think 2 1/2 is too young to be dropping naps completely.

My girls are still in their cribs at 2 1/2 and are just fine in them for now. I plan to redo their room with toddler beds for their 3rd birthday. That's when I moved my DS to his bed. It was so easy and he loved being in a big boy bed.

  16. Wow, Im really surprised. My twins are about 9 months. I moved my DD at about 15 months because she was climbing out. I dont want to move them before they are ready, but I am actually surprised that many of you waited unitl 2.5 to 3!!

We are not big crib sleepers here.

    DS #1 - 19 mths
    DD #1 - 12 mths
DS #2 - never slept in a crib. Slept with us & then into his own bed.
    Twins @ 12 mths

We never had a problem with any of them.

Mine are almost 2 years and 10 months and still in cribs. I am hoping to make it to 3.

    Just before they turned three.

We had tents on the cribs until then, but they started falling apart after nearly two years of hard use. Once the zipper on Jade's broke, and she fell out, that was it.

I just responded to this post last night and guess what 4:30am this morning I heard thump, their door open and my son in the hallway near the stairs (2 story rowhome) so today we bought crib tents...scared the crap out of me! They will be staying in their cribs I definately don't want them falling down the stairs and they don't have the concept of staying in bed, I want to avoid the battle until they are ready.

1st wkend after their 2 year birthday.. it was a huge success..i bought two full size beds.. and crammed them and 2 cribs into a apt size bedroom..

they stayed in from day one..

i got rid of one of the cribs and kept the other as a threat..

that being said.. my daughter gets into my sons bed nightly but.. she has a bed if she ever decides to use it..:)
