When did you graduate from the swaddle?

My babies both need to be swaddled to sleep longer but Maya is starting to escape. It would be great if we could get rid of it but I don't think she's ready. When did your little ones graduate from the swaddle? How was the transition? Did they sleep less?

    Thanks,
    Lanie

Mine only like it sometimes. Most of the time they can get out of it. The other time they cry to get out of it. My friend has a 5 month old and she still swaddles her at night because that is the only way she will sleep. I like to use the Carter's blankets, they are soft, strecthy and a bit bigger for them so they seem to stay on a little better. HTH

We went cold turkey on the swaddle when they started breaking out of it. I really didnt notice if they slept less since they didnt sleep long stretches for a loooooong time.

We didn't stop swaddling until 3-4 mo corrected age. If you want to keep swaddling, you could just get bigger blankets - most swaddling blankets are really on the small side.

We stopped swaddling 3 days after they came home. They could escape then, especially DS

We're still swaddling - and plan to -- well -- until they won't let us anymore ;-) We used miracle blankets - they are the ONLY ones that the boys can't get out of - no matter how they try!

We never fully swaddled, only their bottom halves. They started kicking their way out of them after about 2 months and we just kind of gradually gave it up I never really noticed a difference in how they slept, but mine have never slept long stretches anyway.

Tonight is one of my girls first nights w/o the swaddle ... wish me luck =) My other girl has slept in a sleep sack for a few days now. She does pretty well with it b/c she sucks her thumb sometimes at night ... she hasn't "found" it perfectly consistently but most of the time she does and puts herself back to sleep. My other girl, though, sleeps better swaddled but she hates when we swaddle her ... it makes her cry and I know she will be happier out of it. I am hoping that she will start sucking her thumb at night too. When Meredith first started sucking her thumb ... the first night she found it (she was swaddled with one arm out) ... she slept 13 hours straight!!! At 4 months old! They are 4 1/2 months now.

Good luck! It will be nice when there is one less step in the getting to bed process (x 2)!! Plus, I just think it is SO incredibly cute when they sleep with their arms thrown up over their heads! Right now one of mine has both of her arms stretched out like she wants to give you a big hug. I would stare at her all night ... but I am afraid I'd wake her =) Also, I guess I should get some sleep myself before their midnight snack!
