When did you give them a pillow?

My first post over here...my (almost )) 2-year-olds are in their cribs still (hopefully they will be for quite a bit longer!) and I've recently noticed that when they are in our bed cuddling with us, they love to put their heads on our pillows. I cannot remember when we gave Lennon (our oldest DS) a pillow.....?

When did you give your toddlers a pillow to sleep with?

    Thanks!

I gave ours pillows when they switched over to beds at 2.5 YO. We did the same with Leah.

My DD got a pillow when she moved to a twin bed at 20 months. The boys, however, stayed in their cribs until just before their 3rd birthday. I believe we got them pillows somewhere around 2 years old. It wasn't the age for us, though. I noticed they were wanting to lay down with something under their head. For example, when they would lay on our bed, they liked to put their head on our pillow whereas before they would just lay down wherever. When they layed on the floor, they put something under their head. We have a couple baby/toddler size pillows from when my brother and I were kids and we have them out for my DD (for her dolls). One of my boys would try to take that with him to his crib. That was when we knew they were ready for a pillow. They kind of spelled it out for us.

[IMG] to the 2-4 forum!! I actually gave mine pillows before I moved them to toddler beds. However, they hated them and threw them out of the crib. It wasn't until they moved to toddler beds that they actually started to enjoy them and want to sleep with them. If they like pillows, I'd go ahead and give them one. You can get toddler sized ones practically anywhere (I know Walmart has them).

Ours moved to toddler beds at 3.5 years old and that is when they got a pillow. I did give them one when they were still in cribs when they were close to 3 but they would wake me during the night to take it out, so I just waited until we switched.

Mine got pillows around the age of 2. :good: I remember them being sick and it helped them to sleep on a pillow and they liked it so I left it.

Yeah, I'm beginning to see that it doesn't always get "easier" as they get older! New ages, new challenges!

Thanks ladies for the welcome and the replies! Maybe I'll pick up a toddler size pillow for them next time I'm out. They do tend to pile their "B's" (blankeys) under their faces to sleep on. Maybe they are trying to tell me they want a pillow!

We've tried them a few times but the boys don't like to use them so we keep taking them back out... not sure when they'll finally take to them.

Ours got pillows around 2. They have been using them for several months now. They were still in cribs when we gave them pillows.

    :wavey: Welcome to the 2-4!!!

    Hiya Jori!!

    Welcome :)

A&R got real pillows when they got toddler beds, right after 2. But they had been using travel pillows since they were about 18 months. Not that they slept ON them, but they slept with them.

We gave the girls pillows when we converted the cribs to toddler beds. We hyped it up by telling them we would let them pick out special pillows if they stayed in their beds and did not attempt to get out during nap or bed time. It worked out pretty well.

I added pillows around 20 months. Jake took to using it right away, but it was a good month before Josh wanted anything to do with it. I decided to try pillows because they were always balling up their blankets under their heads.

I got regular size pillows at Walmart for about $5 each.

Can't remember exactly, but it was after their second bday that we gave Joel one because just as you said, he really seemed to like putting his head on a pillow on the couch, or in our bed, etc... and now he's so particular about sleeping with a pillow and being covered by a sheet and/or blankets (in the winter.) Bryan on the other hand, despite our many attempts to GET him to sleep on the pillow he always ends up not using it. I think the only time he will is when he has a cold and he actually figures out he can sleep more comfortably with his head propped up on the pillow vs. being flat on his bed. But I'm very similar, half the time I scoot down towards the foot of our bed and sleep flat w/out my pillow. I felt safe with the pillow and blankets by the time we put them in there too. Also, I started w/ a toddler pillow, thinking that would be best, but found Joel would just roll off of it, and would get upset, and I figured there's a greater chance of the pillow ending up on top of his face that way too. So I found "child's fill" pillows at JCPenneys. They're standard size pillows that fit standard cases, but they're not filled as full, so they're more comfortable on their little necks.

    Thanks everyone! :)

And thanks for the tip about the child's pillow at JCP, I'll have to look into that.

My boys got them around age 2 when they started using a blanket as a pillow [IMG] and we also noticed that they loved the pillows on our bed. We got travel pillows and my mom made them pillow cases which they refuse to keep on! They love the pillows!
