When did you get rid of the play kitchen?

Just wondering when you finally got rid of the play kitchens and dishes? I realized today that the kids still play with it, but not near so much.

I'm not too sentimental and I don't want to keep everything forever. I'd rather keep for visiting kids things that are easier to store (like our Thomas tracks and trains and some Little People). My kids are the oldest cousins, so it'll probably go to my nephew who just turned one, so there is no hurry to depart with it either.

I guess a follow-up question would be is how much do you keep for visiting kids? I have one partly filled Rubbermaid tub of baby toys, board books, and blocks. We have the Take-A-Long Thomas, and I'll keep the track and trains for that. I plan on keeping Legos. Our train table is a generic low plain table with a few drawers. We're keeping that and use it for bigger puzzles, marble mazes and still some track. Anything that does better with a hard surface under it.

They got the kitchen at their 2nd Christmas, and I sold it just after their 3rd Christmas. Brady wanted a play workbench that year, and our playroom is small. I told him if he got that, the kitchen would have to go, and both he and Hayden agreed.

I don't plan to keep any toys just for visiting children.

We had the play kitchen for 2 years...but still have a set of food and dishes they play with.

I did not keep any other toys...either.

We still have our play kitchen. We got our girls a kitchen for christmas, I think they just turned 2 then. They still sometimes play with it now and they are 6 1/2. We still have our because my son still plays with it. I think we will probably keep it atleast until he is 4 or 5 depending if he gets a workbench type toy that is big like that. I am keeping some small toys since I also watch my niece and my bil and sil are expecting another baby that I will be watching. If I wasn't watching them I probably wouldn't keep any younger kid toys since we don't have any other younger kids over except for birthday partys so there would be no need for toys.

I don't keep toys specifically for visiting children. I bought Berkley her kitchen for her 2nd b-day. It was passed on to the boys and they really stopped playing w/ it around 4. I need to get rid of it! LOL!

My daughter is 8 and my son is 5. I am hoping that they will agree to give the kitchen to their 2 year old cousin next week for his birthday. I plan on keeping the dishes and food (didn't actually come with the kitchen), but not the kitchen.

I have kept a small tub of infant toys for visiting kids.

We got rid of the kitchen last year dd was 8. BUT we didn't have much room for it and that was the biggest reason. She still plays with the dishes and play foods.

Nadia got her play kitchen at 2, and she's pretty much outgrown it now at 5.5. But, my little ones just turned 2, so I won't be getting rid of anything for a long while!

We got rid of the toy kitchen before we moved. The boy twins were 1 year old, but my daughter who we bought it for was 8. I did keep the bucket of food and dishes. They twins still love cooking for us, they just pretend more and use a small table in the play room.

All I could think of when I read your post title was 'we are SUPPOSED to get rid of it?' LOL Mine still play with it on occasion, but ours is outside and always has been. They do still play with their cousins, at their house, and inside.

Hmmmmm, maybe I should think about getting rid of it next week at our yard sale. Do ya think they might revolt?

My twins just turned 5, and I cannot imagine getting rid of the play kitchen yet. My 11 yr old still plays with it! It's a favorite toy in our house.

I do not keep toys for visiting kids. I keep a few of my kids' favorites - mostly so they can have them as memorabilia when they get older.
