When did you finish your nursery?

I'm 16 weeks (due in April) but I'm already thinking about setting up the kid's room. I'm just wondering how early this should be done. The room we're going to use is currently being used as my office so we need to figure out how to relocate that as well.
I guess I'm just thinking about it because we're coming up on the holidays and I assume I won't get too much done before the new year. But am I going to want to do most of the work in the third trimester? I'm concerned that I might be on bedrest or who knows what....
When did you have your nursery set up? I'm not too worried about it being totally "done", I've just recently heard stories of people being ill-prepared and babies came early or cribs being backordered for 12 weeks, etc.
    Thoughts on this?

Good question! I'm 30 weeks and my nursery just got completed 2 weeks ago. However, we started in September because we had to relocate all of the children's rooms and completely eliminate the guest bedroom. That meant moving a lot of furniture, which of course the DH had to do. We re-did closets and painted and everything. The house was a total mess for a while. It took so much time because my husband was working and there was only so much I could do on my own. Also, getting the nursery done wasn't that difficult because we have a 2 year old and already had most of the items that we needed.

I would not recommend waiting until the third trimester because one, you never know what may happen medically, and two you should be resting as much as possible IMO because you just seem to have less energy. I hope everything works out for you.

I'm a control freak and wanted to get it done before Thanksgiving, but our cribs came in a month earlier than expected (they said it was going to take 8 weeks) so I've had the nursery "done" for about a month. I wanted to clear out the room (it was an office) and get all the big stuff in while I still had the energy. All the furniture is set up and ready to go, complete with bedding on the cribs (even though we are going to use a pack and play for a couple moths) I've also been trying to buy stuff little by little rather than all at one time, so I was eager to finally put it all together :)
You might want to get started sooner rather than later, especially because ordering furniture can take 8 weeks, and you never know what the future has in store.

When the boys were five months old  We ended up putting them in our room at first, and it was so much easier for me than having to go to the nursery that we just kind of went with it. That way, all we really needed at first was a crib and a change table!

Our nursery was finished on February 13th and the twins were born on February 15th at 37 weeks 4 days.

Thanks! This is helpful. I think I am of the "sooner rather than later" camp only because I also have a ton of work to do in the house (or, should I say, DH does!)--installing phone/cable lines in the new office, painting the room, figuring out the closet situation because I'm currently using the closet in the future nursery...
I also have a friend who had her water break this morning at 36 weeks and now she has babies about 2 weeks before she thought she would! Luckily, she had a place for them to sleep. And I have another friend who was on bedrest for 7 weeks and when the cribs arrived, her husband was somehow out of town and she had to get her brother-in-law to fly in to help...it was a mess.
At any rate, I'm feeling energetic now so I figure why not take advantage of that? Who knows what I'll feel like in 3 months. I'm glad you guys don't think it's totally crazy to be thinking of this now.

My nursery never got completely finished how I wanted. I unexpectedly went into the hospital at 24 weeks and was there until they were delivered at 28 weeks, which was then followed by 10 weeks in the NICU. We did have their cribs purchased already and put up around 22 weeks, but that was it.

I guess there is no really big hurry. Most of the times babies don't come home and go right to sleeping in their cribs in their own rooms. A lot of parents keep them in close by in a PNP or co-sleeper for convenience with all those frequent feedings.

    Have fun decorating!!

I was afraid of exactly what you were... at about 24 weeks I started trying to get DH to paint cribs. At 28 weeks, my dad flew out & started painting them. At 30 weeks they were finished and I was inspired to finish the room.

However, I knew from the get-go that the boys would sleep in our room. Thus far they've used the cribs (1 in our room, 1 in their room) exactly once. They sleep so much better in swings and bouncy seats that I'm not sure it was worth the fighting on my part!

You are not crazy- I wanted to be ready with everything by 34 weeks b/c that's when my docs said they wouldn't stop labor.

    Good luck,

    Michelle

We weren't planning on doing the nursery until I got back from Iraq and they were born. We were just going to have their cribs in our room until we were confortable with them being in their Nursery across the house.

Needless to say they came at 24 weeks and I came home early from Iraq.

Merrick just came home from a LONG NICU stay and sister is bout a week away.

We are 95 percent done. Just have to touch up a bit of paint and hang some things, but it looks great.

It helped pass the NICU time.

They won't go in the Nursery until they come off their monitors, but I will say that depending on how extravagant you decide on going...I learned quick that it takes a LONG time to make it perfect.
