when did you finish with sleep sacks?

Maia and Tal are rapidly approaching the 18 month limit for their current sleep sacks. We use them for naps and at night, winter and summer. They've been brilliant. But now we're not sure whether to replace the current ones - they're expensive and realistically we probably need 4 - or to start sleeping them with blankets and warm pajamas, which will also need buying.

What did you do or what do you plan to do? How easy was the eventual weaning off sleep sacks? Will they help prevent the girls from climbing out of their cots?

    Many thanks

We stopped once they were standing up because they were always getting caught up in them. We just switched to the warm feety pajamas. DD hasn't tried to climb out of her crib but ds can but stopped thankfully.

I am hoping to still use ours this winter. We have never used them for naps though, just bedtime.

We stopped using sleep sacks when they were cruising/first walking because they would trip on them. We used pajamas with socks for the warmer nights and then blanket sleepers for the Winter. Once they were walking well, I tried the sacks again and they could walk in them just fine. FWIW, Halo says they are going to have a smaller version of their "big kids" sack offered in October -- this is the kind with foot holes. They also have a 2 for 1 twins discount which really helps.

ETA: Mine can climb in/out of the crib while wearing their sacks so I know that they are not effective in preventing this behavior in a determined child. Crib tents work beautifully.

Hmmm. I stopped sleep sacks at about 4 months. I switched to footie jammies when he outgrew the initial ones he had. I couldn't find any in bigger sizes.

We are still using the light weight ones and my twins just turned 2. I haven't decided if we will use them this winter or swithc to footed pj's and regular blankets.

I called Halo (the company that makes them) to order the last ones. If you buy 2 and tell them you have twins, they will give you a 50% discount on one of them

I also stopped once they were standing and walking. To me it seemed cruel to keep them in them after that. You can find footed sleepers that are just as warm and I've also put light cotton pijamas on them UNDER the sleeper on really cold nights. (We don't have heat in our house! It never gets below freezing but it is cold in the winter.)
Also this confession/revelation--I'm always used blankets with them, since the day they were born. We also coslept the first year so I was there to check on them. By 18 months there is no reason why you can't use a blanket if you feel your house is cold enough, you could start with a crocheted/knitted one with lots of air circulation if you are nervous about suffication.

My boys just turned 2. They are currently using the cotton sleepsacks - they even climb the stairs with them on - with Mommy right behind. ;)

I just ordered the big kids fleece sacks from Halo. The former 2 for 1 twins discount is now buy 1, get 1 50% off.

My DD won't sleep without it. For her going into the sack is a sign that it's sleep time and only on rare occations will she sleep without it.

We still use them especially with DD at nap, since she like to strip. I put them on backwards and so far that has worked. In fact I will probably get the toddler version this winter.

We still use them and will continue to until they no longer make them big enough. We are about to have to buy the XL for DS. We use them for nap and bedtime. Right now we are using the lightweight cotton ones by Halo.

It's adorable how DS stands up- puts his arms in the holes for you, then collapses like he can't stay awake a second longer. Not sure what we'll do when they outgrow them since these obviously provide sleep cues.
