    Hello...
I was curious as to when you all found out you were expecting twins. I have had several major signs that I am... but it has yet to be confirmed...
I am currently 23 weeks pregnant with my second pregnancy. I first felt "flutters" at 10 1/2 weeks, kicks at 14-15 weeks... I have been feeling rib kicks since 20 weeks and I had my first butt in the rib at the beginning of my 22nd week. I have a Doppler (very expensive and a very good one... not one from walmart) that just recently (when I take my time and actually take my time to look) I can find a second strong and fast heartbeat. I had an ultrasound at 18 weeks, my SO was talking and joking with the tech the whole time and so she didn't fully look around like she did with my past pregnancy.... I have a profile shot of my daughter that my family thinks is really odd (will post at bottom along with recording of the double heartbeats)... I am HUGE and my uterus is measuring huge too... at 21 weeks it was measuring 25 weeks and at the end of 22 weeks to the beginning of 23 weeks it is now measuring a whopping 30 weeks! (will post picture down below)... I know you all cant tell me IF I am expecting twins... obviously only an ultrasound and Dr can... but I was curious as to when (the latest) you all found out and had it confirmed that you were expecting twins.

This pregnancy feels way off... and way different than my other one (and yes I know every pregnancy is different lol)but I just cant seem to shake the feeling of twins... its just my friend on another baby & parenting website JUST found out (like a month ago) at 30 weeks (for the first time) that she was expecting twins ... and she had had a previous ultrasound done around 20 weeks to find out the sex (she was told it was a girl and just gave birth to a boy and a girl at 33 weeks).... any-who... I know its rare... but things do happen... and I was just wondering. All responses are welcome :)

Thanks (and sorry for the rambling... lol)

    Veronica

(The link to the recording of the two heartbeats found on my Doppler... one is in the 130's and the other in the 150's... if you listen closely you can even hear them overlap every once in a while)

Wow It does really sound like two seperate heartbeats. I think you should talk to your doctor, if you are carrying twins they need to be checking you more regularly. Good luck :good:

Wow - I'd ask for them to check again.
I voted 9-14 weeks, but when I had my first OB appointment at 8 weeks, she *thought* she saw two embryos but that her machine sucked and so we'd need to get it verified the next week at the perinatologist. That's when it became official.

I dont know much about dopplers -- we've never used one (scans only) but my twins were pretty clearly present at 6 weeks. By 18 weeks there was NO doubt that there were two and that they were boy/girl.

I know that the surprise twin late in pregnancy thing does happen, but I think its pretty rare. If you were looking out for twins and told the doctors, then I would be really surprised that they didnt find the second baby at your 18 week ultrasound if there is one there. But clearly anything is possible and I hope you get the news that you want on Wednesday.

Same here... and I suggest that if the doctor won't talk to you, you stomp on his/her foot. That's where taking the DH alongis helpful... I have no problem standing in front of the door to stop them from escaping.

We found out in was twins at 7 weeks, but based on the weekly bloodwork prior it was really a question of twins vs. "trips or more". By week 6, DW's beta was entirely off the betabase.info chart for a singleton.

Ok, this has no relevance, but I just saw it and it's really funny... :gah:

Good luck at your next appointment, I can't wait to hear what your doctor thinks. :good:

We found out at 6.5 weeks but we had help so knew there was a chance and it's why we had an u/s so early on.

hahahahhaahaha love the little guy at the end lol... yeah SO is freaking out too now... especially after I told him that this morning I got a kick to my right rib, a punch to my right hip, what felt like another kick to my cervix, and a wiggle by my left hip all at the same time... at this time last pregnancy I never felt anything above my belly button... so yeah... you can bet he will tell the Dr whats-what if they wont listen to me lol. hahaha -> this will be what my SO does to the Dr if I dont get that other ultrasound lol :slap:

thanks :) I will definitely keep you all updated!

There's a lot to be said for "mother's intuition." From the moment I took the first pregnancy test I too could not shake the feeling that there were twins in there. I had my first appointment around 7.5 weeks and asked my doctor about it. He felt my uterus and said I was measuring normal and that there was "only one in the hopper." I wasn't convinced, so I asked if we could get an ultrasound, if nothing else to be able to see the heartbeat before we could hear it. He obliged, and scheduled an ultrasound the very next morning! Sure enough when the tech said, "so do twins run in either of your families?" we knew!!
Good luck on your next appointment, and make sure they listen to you! You will definitely need to make sure you're getting the care you need!

Good Luck on Wednesday. We found out at 6 weeks but we got pg via FET and transfered 2 embies so we were closely monitored. Once again good luck and let us know.

I had something similar! I had an apt scheduled for 8 weeks and around 6.5 weeks I started just "feeling like it was twins" and then at 7 weeks started having this one very vivid dream about breastfeeding two babies while my toddler played. I had it every night until we went to the OB. DH kept telling me it was just pregnancy hormones and that he couldn't wait until my apt to prove me wrong.. Let's just say he was choking on his words when the dr. started the ultrasound and you could clearly see 2 babies in there!

I would def stand your ground with your Dr and demand an ultrasound! It can happen, and the tech could have just not been a good tech and techincally looking for 1 baby at your last ultrasound. And if your Dr is like ours here, unless you have high risk or multiples you get 2 ultrasounds the entire time and thats it.

We found out at 10 weeks since our Dr does an ultrasoudn then to better detect your EDD. I had no clue but found out early enough.

I would also demand an ultrasound as well. We found out it was twins at the 9 week dating u/s scan. Up to that point, we had no inkling we were having twins.
Good luck and keep us posted!

Thank you both for your replies :) We are definitely going to be demanding another ultrasound... at this point I dont even care if we have to pay for it ourselves... I will update when we get home from the appointment!

I found out we were having twins at my second U/S at about 20 weeks. First U/S at about 9 weeks no one picked up the second baby. It can and does happen!

We found out we were having twins at 14 weeks. I just knew I was having twins and I insisted on having an ultrasound. I had only just had my first ob appointment at 13 weeks. I wouldn't have gotten an ultrasound until 21 weeks so I had to fib about my dates a bit to get an ultrasound. Well low and behold there were actually 2 ! I knew I was hearing 2 heartbeats overlapping as well. It sounded exactly like yours does when I expected twins. I have been getting the rib kicks since about 23 weeks as well.

If your dr won't do another ultrasound, can you have a private 3d one done ?

Good luck and keep us posted !!

with my first set of twins i found out at 20 week u/s i went to find out the sex of the baby and she said oh twins! i went back to my midwife and she just laughed and said yeah you were measuring a month further along then your due date. with this set i knew very early. But they did an u/s at like 6 weeks and it was twins again. so i have been at both ends of it now lol good luck i hope you find out soon

Crazy... yeah I already decided that if they wont give us an ultrasound tomorrow at my appointment (by the actual TECH and NOT the Dr... because the Dr already admitted like 20 times that they don't know how to work the machines...)... then I am walking my *** in to one of the private ultrasound places around here and charging it to my credit card. We are getting a 3d/4d one at our OB's office but that wont be for another month, and I don't think I could go on not knowing for that long lol. I will update you all as soon as I get home from my appointment and running around town (my daughter needs some more diapers and fluoride water lol)... Check back in the afternoon/evening! I will have an update for sure by then.

And thank you all for all your wonderful replies... you all have been so nice and helpful! :)

Careful ladies! What you are all feeling IS NOT the baby kicking! ITS GAS!!!!! And careful! If you poke it "Gas" might even kick you back!

I am beyond pissed. I got seen by the Physician's Assistant. My Dr was delivering a baby so I saw her instead. I swear if I was as good at predicting what people will do as I was at playing the lottery I would be a millionaire by now! lol... she stuck her fingers where she knew the 23 week uterus should be... instead of TELLING her where it REALLY was (hello... its called contractions... I know how big my own uterus is! ) I asked "well then why am I feeling kicks all the way up here? (next to my sternum)... and she told me it was GAS! I then asked her what the butt in my ribs was and she ignored that one and went to stick the Doppler on my tummy. My SO was beyond pissed off too by this point and was asking about getting another ultrasound and she said "No... you already had one and we have NEVER missed twins EVER..." My SO was a smart-*** and said, "So its never happened in the history of pregnancy?" and she said "Not here in THIS office!" We then asked her about the heartbeat thing and she said "Was it a whooshing sound?" and we said "No it sounds just as loud and fast and strong as that one we are listening to right now." and she flipped out on us and said "Well IM not going to ARGUE with you guys... if you want to go get an ultrasound done elsewhere then go for it... you cant just get ultrasounds done here whenever you feel like it!" Then scribbled on the paper when my next appointment should be and rushed out of the room!

We went to the Women's Center and have an appointment Saturday morning at 10 AM....

I wish MY doctor was there.... she would have pulled in the ****** ultrasound machine and taken a look just to calm us down... the dumb ***** didn't even attempt to look for another heartbeat on the Doppler to prove us wrong....
I was so pissed at her and frustrated that I didn't even talk about the contractions I have been feeling all week or how fast my hip pain and pressure has increased since 20 weeks.

OH NO you guys!!! My "GAS" is attacking me and my ribs! lol

On a better note I gained 3 pounds putting me at -2 pounds for the pregnancy I am almost back to my pre pregnancy weight!

lol no she doesnt... God did she make me mad! I cant wait until Saturday morning! I am hoping for twins more than ever now lol I want to be able to walk in to that office next week and shove ultrasound pictures in her face and say "HERE ARE MY TWINS! Nana-nana-nana!" lol... ok... maybe not quite like that haha but you know what I mean. I will update you for sure Saturday :)

    Wow - sounds crazy!

I found out at 7 weeks. Although, I know someone who didn't find out until she was about 20 weeks... the one baby was hidden behind the other. It does seem strange to me when they don't see the second. I guess because our ID twins are in the same placenta - it's hard to miss one of the twins.

I can't wait to hear the outcome!

How is it that you are so far along and no ultrasounds??? Even in my uncomplicated singleton pregnancy I had ultrasounds at 9 weeks, 12 weeks, and 20 weeks. I guess every doctor is different. Good luck and let us know what you find out!!

I had one done at 18 weeks.... (I said that in my OP)... It was MUCH shorter than the ultrasound I had with my first pregnancy and my SO was talking to the Tech the WHOLE time. She didnt look around like she did with the ultrasounds I had done with my daughter (my first pregnancy)... I have heard several stories of women (and know one in particular) that had their ultrasound at around 20 weeks and was told one baby and then 10 weeks later found out it was twins... or found out at delivery it was twins... So with the lack of interest in my pregnancy that my office seems to be showing me (My grandmother said its because this pregnancy I have medicaid instead of "real" insurance) I am nervous.

Like I said earlier I am only 23 weeks and I am measuring 31 weeks... I have been feeling movement WAY sooner than I should (IMO)... and did you listen to the recording of the "two heartbeats"? I think that would scare anyone into wondering dont you? lol.

I have scheduled an ultrasound at another place for Saturday morning and I will definitely let you all know what happens. :)

I hope you find out you are having twins too! I want to hear what their reaction is. I didn't find out I was having twins until 19 weeks. I was admitted to the hospital for gallbladder/appendix pains. They did an u/s and HELLO TWINS!!! My OB has been practicing for 50 years and he didn't even think for a moment I was expecting twins. However before I even got pregnant, I had two people in my church come up to me and say "Twins next time!" I pretty much laughed it off. I was measuring bigger and I also found two distinct heart beats with my doppler prior to knowing for sure. I'm glad you are going in Sat. it's important you get the care you need for twins, especially if you are dealing with pressure...you don't want to be dilating already without even knowing it.

Well I can't wait to hear how Sat. goes for you!!!

I voted 9 - 14 weeks. The only reason I got an ultrasound that early was because between school, working and my son I couldn't exactly remember when my last period was. It was just a dating ultrasound to check the growth of the baby. Lo and behold two heads popped up on the screen. I was 13 weeks I beleive.
