When did you drop from 2 to 1 nap

My babies are taking an AM nap and a PM nap. The thing is lately the naps are shortening to an hour each when the AM used to be an hour and the PM was 2 hours.

    Right now they:
    6:00am- wake
    8:00-9:00nap an hour
    12:00-1/1:30- nap
    6:30pm- bed

So I am curious, when did you drop from 2 to 1 nap?
I like the 2 naps but they are kinda short.

I'm curious as well. My boys are still on 2 naps a day but DH has been trying to cut out the morning one and they just aren't going for it - they get so cranky!!

I think we were around 15/16 months when we switched.

I think my twins were around 15 months. They now just take one nap from 11-12:30 and go to bed at 7.

I did it at 18 mos. They were playing and talking through their whole p.m. nap....

Can I add a question to this topic? My boys (16 months) are doing what I thought was transitioning from 2 to 1 nap a day so this is what we are doing

    8am-wake up
    8:30-9:00 breakfast
    12:00-12:30pm Lunch
1pm nap (which for about a day went to 4pm)
    bed at 8pm.

BUT they won't sleep at all now. And they are SOOOO miserable. They sleep soso through the night (started night waking too) Anyone have thoughts on how to get them to nap again at all? I am losing my mind.

I've been wondering this same thing. My girls are still taking two naps. (I know how lucky I am that they're still doing that at almost 20 months and I'm NOT complaining!) Their morning nap is still 2-2.5 hours and their afternoon nap is usually about an hour. It seems like sometimes they don't want to take their afternoon nap, though. They just sit in there and talk and laugh at each other for an hour or so. I'm wondering if it might be time to transition them but if they wait till after lunch for a nap, they get SO cranky. Sundays are always miserable b/c that's what we have to do. Anybody have tips on transitioning them?

We just switched to 1 nap about a week and half ago. The girls naps were lasting between 45mins and an hour and they were going to sleep later and later at night, sometimes close to 9pm and they have always gone to bed at 7:30 in the past.

The first week was a little tough just keeping them going in the morning and I moved lunch up to close to noon instead of 12:30 and put them down at 1pm now and they go until 3 or later. It is actually nice to have that long stretch in the day to get things done instead of the two short naps. I thought I would miss 2 naps, but I like it better. They are back to going to bed at 7:30 and pretty much crash in 5 mins.

    Good luck!

We haven't switched yet, but I did a search on this a few weeks ago (because I was wondering if it was time), and got the sense that most people switched between 16-18 months. Funny that the people who answered this time seem to have switched a little earlier than that!

Mine actually only take one nap at daycare (from about 12:30-2:30), but I have no idea how they keep them up all morning. They've been doing this since 12 months! At home on weekends we still take two (roughly 9-10 a.m. and 1-2:30 p.m.) because they are basket cases if they don't get a morning nap.

One trick we do sometimes is to go for a walk right at the morning nap time. They don't sleep as much, but if they get a ~30 min catnap in the stroller (or the car), they are good until the afternoon nap. So we are still able to get out in the mornings. I am hoping this will help them to transition more easily because it's not a "real" nap, and we can end it whenever we want by wheeling the stroller into the coffeeshop. [IMG]

It was around 17 months, when they started going to the sitters.

Thanks everyone. I do have 2 older DDs and can't for the life of me remember when they dropped their 2nd nap. I think it was at about 18 months.

I've been wondering the same thing. I can't remember what I did with my first two. These guys are up at 7:30 nap from about 10-11:30 and 2:30-4 bed at 7-7:30.
I just don't feel like I have much time to get anything done with this schedule. I am looking forward to 1 nap a day.

My girls have been taking one nap a day for the past month. At first, I thought it was just a stage and kept putting them to bed at their normal nap time. However, for the past three weeks, they would just sit and play the entire time in the bed. I stopped putting them down for the second nap after that. They do go to bed for the night an hour earlier, and I have moved their only nap an hour later than it used to be to compensate for the second nap.

Yes, I was thinking the same. Trying to figure out do they need to move to 1 nap, or do they need to stop interacting and take a nap. The share a room so that makes me wonder if one is ready and one is not and they are keeping each other from napping. I am going to keep up with the 2 naps because they are so cranky and ready for thier morning AND afternoon naps.

So after a couple months I'll probably try to switch.

I think mine were around 22 months. I do remember it was a struggle.... making sure they weren't overly tired, but not getting too much sleep. We were between houses then too, so it was crazy!!

I just dropped mine to one nap...they now go down after an early lunch, so between 1130 and 12 and nap 2 to 3 hours just once a day.

We were early -- my girls went to one nap at 11 months! We did it because they were taking a looooooong time to fall asleep for their morning nap, so it was interfering with the 1 PM nap. The transition was pretty smooth (took them about a week to adjust and stop falling asleep in their lunch [IMG] ) but once they did I found it made our day easier. I hated feeling like I was putting them down to sleep all the time -- naptime was stressful with these two. After this, it was easy for a while.

Now they only nap about 50% of the time. So I guess by the time they are three there may be no nap at all. But we have pretty much had the same schedule since 11 months:

    7:30 Wake up
    8:30 Breakfast
    11:30 Lunch
    12:30 Nap
4:00 Wake from nap (if not up before)
    4:30 Snack
6:00 Dinner (this has moved from 5-6)
8:00 Bedtime (this has gradually gotten later in the last year)
