When did you ditch the swings?

The weight limit on ours are 25 lbs. If they wiggle and shake around a whole lot they can really rock them! I just wondered if most people get rid of them before they even reach the weight limit. We are at the point where we only really use them for right after they eat because we figure it gives their tummies time to digest their food before getting in the exersaucers or on the floor where they usually spit up right after eating. So we don't really use them much anyway but I'm so afraid to let them go!!!

We got rid of ours long before the weight limit, when the boys started turning around in them and trying to get out [IMG]

OMG i cannot believe they go up to 25 lbs? My boys were not that heavy until around 18 months. When they made the swings move BY THEMSELVES it was time to get rid of them. Oh what a sad day....

I am so scared of the day i have to get rid of the swings. They have been a lifesaver...but i can tell the day is coming sooner than later. I use it as a transistion from day to bed time. What do we do when they are gone? Any ideas?

we had the baby papasan swings and had to get rid of them around 4 months because they were trying to sit up in them. The papasan swings are not very deep.

Ds was in his swing until 16 or 17 months and the funny thing is according to the wieght requirements he would have just outgrown it in the last few months at 3 years old [IMG]

My girls on the other hand are going nuts in theirs now, Im dreading taking them away...thats the only place they will nap right now

The weight limit on ours was 25lbs as well. Mine still used theirs until they were about 13 months old. Then, when they were to heavy/big the swing wouldn't hardly go back and fourth... that was time to let it go!

I used them right up to the weight limit. My kids LOVED the swing, and it was the only way I could accomplish much.

7 months, when they started grabbing the bars while swinging, and I found Jacob trying to escape. [IMG]

We stopped using ours about a month ago. The boys would hang sideways out of them to look at the floor and would try to get out of them. Also the swings wouldn't swing anymore because they were too heavy even though they hadn't reached the weight limit.

The girls never really liked theirs. I listed it on craigs list the other day.

The girl's didn't like their swing at all. I had two of them and they refused to sit in it. So we stopped using it when they were about 2 to 3 months old.

Unfortunately, I put mine away a couple of weeks ago (just over five months). The seats were on the most reclined position and both girls leaned forward as much as possible (like almost doubled over!). I could just picture them going head first somehow. It was a sad day in our house because the swings were my saving grace at times. At least we still have the bouncy seats!

Mine are 10.5 months (almost 9 months adjusted) and still sleeping in them for naps and at night. I know this is really bad, I just haven't been able to transition them into their cribs. We have one "big" swing and two portable ones. They usually sleep in the portable swings in their cribs. I always turn the swings off at night. I guess they just really like the positioning. We started using them because of reflux, then apnea monitor wires (I was afraid they would tangle themselves once they started moving around), then colds. Now it is a big monster! My biggest concern is that it is detrimental to Jackson's torticollis, but then again, lack of sleep is no good for anyone! Any suggestions would be helpful. I'm at a loss as to how to get over this without major trauma. [IMG]

Mine weren't all that fond of the swing, but they used it occasionally until about 6 months. They started grabbing the bar which would stop the swing. [IMG]

I moved it to the basement and moved a new toy upstairs. That's my new process. To bring something "new" into the play room, something "old" has to go downstairs to storage. [IMG]

I am selling their swings this week. [IMG] They nap in their swings so this is going to be a big pain in the butt. They are almost 9 months and I am sure they have passed the weight requirement. People are coming to pick them up tommorrow....it will be a sad day!

We loved ours (we only had one), but around 8 months they started liking it MUCH less. They had learned to crawl and just hated to be confined. Then I started worrying that they could wiggle out. We quit using it altogether by 9 months (and they only weighed 16-18 lbs).

What I did with my ds is I started putting him in his crib at nap time,we did CIO, it took a few days before he really adjusted to sleeping in his crib. i gave it a week or two of consistantly going down at nap time before I started doing it at bedtime. I know most people start it at bedtime. The only reason I havent switched my girls yet is because we are visiting family and the girls room is in the computer room and my grandparents need to be in here at lunch time and there is just no other place to put the pnps to work them into naps in the pnps
