when did you deliver?

Discussion in 'The First Year' started by rebeccagridley, Jul 27, 2007.

    Hi everyone,
Just thought I'd get a little bit more of a clue as to when most everyone delivered. I'm 37 1/2 weeks and my doctor just scheduled me for a csection next week (I'll be 38 1/2 weeks). I am one of those people that want the babies to come 'naturally' and want to see how long I would actually go. But doc seems to think that they've cooked long enough and that they are ready to come out. Should I trust the doctor or let him know how I feel? Is there any benefit to leaving the babies inside for another 1 1/2 to 2 weeks? Or would I just be asking for trouble with possible problems that could arise? Any input would be great! Thanks so much!

I delivered at 38 weeks 2 days and my boys weighed 6.6 and 7.7. Mine was also a scheduled csection. I feel like I could have gone forever before they would have decided to come out.

I wouldnt wait longer than 39 weeks. Its up to you ultimately. If he's willing to wait until 38.5 weeks, what a couple more days? I delivered at 38w2d, by choice. My doc was willing to let me go to 40. Some doctors dont think thats okay, they insist on 37 or 38. That whole "term at 37 weeks for twins" seems silly to me. But talk to your doctor about how you feel and have him explain his though to you. :) HTH!

I was so ready for them to come out at 37 weeks (to the day). I couldn't breathe, I hadn't slept in a week and I was getting very anxious. I was so huge. But mine were also both breech, so I really didn't have a choice as to the c/s.

You should definetly trust your doctor. Imagine if after he/she delivers you and you find out that he/she would've waited if you wanted to! Good luck, you brave girl!!!!

37 weeks, emergency c-section due to placental abruption. We were schduled for a c-section at 37w 5d as Twin A was breech, but they came early. To be honest, I didn't feel the greatest towards the end, but hardly remember what it felt like now, so as hard as it might be to hear, try to soak it up while you can. There's nothing in the world quite like carrying TWO babies in your womb!! :)

I was 37.2 and it was a scheduled induction (due to pre-e), turned emergency c-section. My girls were 6.1 and 6.5.

36 weeks 3 days ... I was scheduled for a 38 week c-section ... but I was having tons of contractions and we decided it was go time at 36w3d. The babies were 5lbs and 5.8 lbs...

I would always be honest with your doctor and at least discuss what you might want.

36 weeks, went into labor all on my own and had a vag delivery. My girls were 6 lb 2 oz and 5 lb 15 oz. No NICU time. They were and are perfectly healthy. Mackenzie kept flipping around in the weeks before I had them and I was actually schedule for a C, but she got into position when she needed to. Thank God, because I couldn't take it any more. Good Luck!

I delivered at 38 weeks. My ds was 6 lbs & my dd was 5 15. I was thinking about being induced because I was so uncomfortable--but my water broke on it's own & labor started almost immediately. I'm like you--I like to let things happen naturally--but towards the end I was really struggling & felt like the babies were never going to come. Are you definitely going to have a c-section? I would definitley discuss your feelings with your doctor. I don't know why I try to post on here!! There is chaos all around me & I can't put my thoughts together!!!!!!!!!!!! sorry!

Thanks, everyone, for your input. The baby closest to the cervix is breech so it's looking like a definite c-section unless something changes between now and then. Is it possible that the baby's position will change and I will be able to deliver vaginally?

I delivered 35 weeks 4 days and had small babies and still no NICU time and brought them home with me 4 days later. We were scheduled to have a section on 5/7/07 and then i got severe preaclampsia and was rushed in from doc appt 4/23/07 and had the babies 3 hours later. :)

Not a Dr., but I personally would doubt they would change. I have a scheduled c-section at 39 weeks, and mine were 7 lbs, 6 oz, and 6 pounds, 8 oz. Good luck!

Also had a scheduled C at 38 weeks, girls were 6lbs12 and 6lbs15, no NICU time. Very healthy! over 90th percentile for height and weight at 6 months.

My understanding is that twins are "cooked" and done a little earlier than singletons, and so the optimal time for them to come out is between 36 and 38 weeks. Dr. Barbara Luke's book on multiples has a good explanation for why. There is a chance that the placenta begins to degrade and no longer delivers oxygen and food as well to them if you wait longer than that, so some doctors do not like to wait because it *could* lead to distress in one or both twins.
It's great that you made it this far.

According to my OB, it is very unlikely that twins will change position this late in the game because they don't have much space to maneuver, but I guess anything is possible. They will (should!) do an ultrasound right before your scheduled C-section to check, just in case.
    Good luck!

    HI, I was induced at 37 weeks and my sons weighed 6 3 and 6 7. I didn't have a C-section, but I had a 9 pound baby before. Hope this helps.

I was 36 weeks even. It was my checkup and my OB said I was 4 cm dialiated and she was oncall that night, so to meet her at the hospital that evening and she induced. We have no problems and no NICU time.

My doc told me that for twins 36-38 weeks is considered full term. Earlier for trips and quads. Mine came at 30 wks. I would have wished for 38 1/2 wks!!

We were induced at 38 weeks and 4 days (i also feel that they would have just stayed in, if we did not kick them out)

    Baby "B" 5 lbs 5 oz
    no nicu :D

Both of my boys were breech at 36 weeks and I was told there was no way that they had enough room to turn for a vaginal birth. That's when we scheduled a c-section for 38w2d - I basically had three dates to choose from in my 38th week and opted for the first. I had no signs of impending labor when I was checked the day before the section and the OB told me later he thinks I probably would have gone to 40 weeks on my own. I admit that I was relieved to have had the boys when I did; I was so uncomfortable and I really didn't want to experience labor when I knew I needed a c-section for the delivery. I'm sure your doctor is thinking that a planned c-section is a lot easier to handle than waiting for natural labor to occur, but if you feel strongly about it tell the doctor.

FYI - Colin was 7 lbs 14 oz, 20.5 inches and Gavin was 7 lbs 4 oz, 20 inches at 38w2d. They were fine, we were all home in 4 days.

    Good luck!!!

Neither of my doctors felt like we would make it to our scheduled c-section at 38wks 4days but we did!! and I am glad we did - babyA was 6.9# and B was 6.8#. Ava spent 4 hours in the NICU due to breathing problems and all though it was only 4 hrs - it was 4 hours too long! I believe in letting babies come when they are ready too but in our experience - Baby A's fluid level was getting low so it was time! my dr would not schedule before 38 weeks but said that anytime after 37 weeks was full term for twins.

I had a schedule c-section at 38wks1d and I am pretty sure I could have gone 40wks. I didn't want to either because I was miserable by the time I actually delivered. I am so glad it was over. I had breech babies and I already had a c-section prior so planned section was the way to go for me.

38.5 weeks. My dr. wanted to deliver me at 37, but I was very opposed to being induced. After doing a TON of research, I came to the conclusion that twin pregnancy is definitely NOT safe after 40 weeks. My dr. put so much pressure on me that I finally agreed to be induced just before 39 weeks. I had already been dilated to 5, and had been having contractions off and on for two weeks, so the day before my induction I went in with the contractions and they kept coming (slowly). They eventually broke my water when I was dilated to 8/9 and Baby A was out in 5-10 minutes!

I was induced at 38 weeks exactly. I was able to deliver vaginally with absolutely no problems whatsoever. :) Maggie was 6 lbs 7 oz & Sophie was 6 lbs 1 oz. They were born 23 minutes apart b/c Sophie's leg got tangled in the cord & she took her time coming down. LOL! GOOD LUCK!

34w1d - induction due to rapid onset pre-e turned into emergency c-section. The boys were small (3-9oz and 4-0oz) but were in the hospital only 6 days.

My guys were born at 37 weeks 2 days. My doc would have let me go to 40 weeks (insane, IMO) and after eating half a fresh pineapple, my water broke at 37 weeks 1 day. They had to do an emergency C after 27 hours of labor and me not dialating past a 6 and then spiking a fever. The nuggets were born at 5 pounds 5 ounces and 6 pounds 8 ounces (which the ultrasound said they were both about 6 pounds 5 ounces, haha) and were just fine!!!
