When did you change nipples?

I'm just wondering when everyone changed from slow to medium or level 1 to level 2 nipples for their infants who were bottlefeeding?

My kiddos are 8 weeks, and we use Dr Brown's with level 1 nipples. Each feed can take anywhere from 40 minutes to an hour, and I'm wondering if this sounds right or if we should try the level 2 nipples.

    Thanks!

We changed when it seemed to take forever for them to take a bottle. You can always go up a level and if it seems to fast go back to the stage one.

I can't quite remember when we upped our Dr. Brown's nipples from 1 to 2's, but I remember deciding to do it when they would take longer to eat, or wouldn't eat as much as normal.

I totally agree. Give it several feedings before you decide to switch back. They do need a little time to get used to the faster flow.

I have had 7 kids and never switched the nipple size from the newborn size.

With the twins, I never switched nipple size (I nursed, and pumped and bottle fed) we stayed with the slow nipples for the entire 19 months that they took a bottle. We never had a problem with them taking forever to fed, or being mad when they ate, because it wasn't flowing fast enough.

My reasoning was that my nipple never changed size (flow) so therefore neither would a "fake " nipple that they would use.

That is exactly what we did. When it took them forever and they got frustrated, we went up to the next size.

    I switched to number 2 at about a month. I can't get them to take a number 3 - we're stuck at number 2 (they're 5 months old). I don't really mind.

we switched to level 2 at 3 months and it made a huge difference! Much quicker! Then we changed to level 3 at 6 months and it was great. I remember they took longer to drink in the first 3 months, nowadays, they can drink 6~8 ounces in 10 minutes.... Hope that helps!
