When did they start feeding themselves with a spoon?

Mine love to feed themselves, but just can't use a spoon. I have been giving them non-messy foods that they can feed themselves and feeding the messy ones to them. I let them play with a spoon every once in a while to get the hang of it, but they just don't seem interested.

About what age did yours start using a spoon and how did you go about introducing it?

I started giving my guys utensils pretty early. I'd say right after a year. At first, it was more like a toy to them but eventually they got the hang of it. I did introduce the fork first, then the spoon.
    Good luck~

Mine have had a spoon just to hold on to since maybe 9-10 months I guess. They have really started actually feeding themselves with a spoon and sometimes their own bowl the past few weeks. Bea just grabbed the spoon out of my hand one day and wanted to do it herself. I still feed them if it is something really messy or I'm in a hurry. They aren't great at it and make a big mess sometimes, but they are getting better.

My girls just started using spoons about 6 weeks ago. I still help them a little, but they have to put it in their mouths themselves or they won't eat anything.

I introduced utensils at 18 months and they were doing pretty well with both the fork and spoon by two years old. At our 2 year appointment our ped asked if I was giving them utensils then at our 3 years she asked if they were proficient with both. Both of my answers were yes, just trying to give you an idea of the window my ped seemed to have interest in!

my mom introduced the spoon just 2 weeks ago (almost 16 months old at the time) and they LOVE it. Now they try and use spoon and fork. It's a mess, but they are getting better and eat much better.

We introduced utensils at 12 months and now they both feed themselves proficiently with both a fork and spoon. They use utensils and plates/bowls at every meal.
