I have a friend who is roughly six weeks along and is being told that they're mono mono. I'm trying to remember, but I think that they didn't find the membrane between my mono-di girls until twelve weeks?

    When did they find yours?

18 weeks. This was also when I switched doctors so that may have had something to do with it. The first office wasn't that great or aware of how to deal with mono-di twins.

I didn't have my first ultrasound till 11 weeks but they definitely saw the membrane then.

11 weeks BUT even right up until delivery had a HECK of a time finding it. I mean we SEARCHED at each and every appt sometimes had to call in extra/different docs to look! If there are two yolk sacs odds are HIGH that there is a membrane.

Tried at 12 weeks, no luck then showed up at 18 weeks, at a more up to date facility with better equipment and more experienced technicians.

I didn't have my first u/s till 24 weeks and they had trouble finding it then. It was very thin.

I remember them looking for it multiple times and only finding it at the peri's office- they said that it was super thin and that there's a window of time to spot it within, too late or too early and it's much harder to find.

But now, three years later, my memory of the timeline is so fuzzy! I can't believe it's already been so long since I was on here panicking about the very same thing for myself. :)

My memory isn't that great after so long either, but I'm pretty sure they found it in the beginning. My first ultrasound was at 12 weeks, so either that one or the following one at 16 weeks. I do remember that it got more difficult to see as the boys got bigger. My boys are fraternal though.

I had my first u/s at 13 weeks and they really had to work to find it, but finally found t. I'm not sure if they ever saw it again. Maybe at 18 weeks.

I had my first ultrasound at 20 weeks and they couldn't find it at the regular doctor's office. At 21 weeks I went to a perinatologist and they found the membrane after looking for what seemed like hours. The peri told me that the membrane is extremely difficult to see between 5 - 9 weeks, easier from 9 - 15 weeks, and then can become difficult again to find. She also said that there is nothing different to do for a mono/di pregnancy and a mono/mono pregnancy until about 20 weeks, so it's not worth stressing about the membrane until then. She doesn't even tell her patients they couldn't find one until 15 weeks because so many membranes can't be seen early.

Ours are mono-di as well and they found the membrane at 7 weeks 4 days(no earlier u/s though). It takes a bit of searching at each visit for them to lock onto it though.

Ours was seen at 8 weeks, that's when we found out about the twins ! I think it just depends on the tech.

At our first u/s at 6 wks we could tell they were in two completely separate sacs.

I had an ultrasound at ten weeks and they only saw one baby, and at 18 weeks there were two! So at my 18 week ultrasound they saw the membrane dividing them.

My official results as to what type of twins the girls are was inconclusive...whatever that means...thought they saw a membrane at 8 weeks, then thought they saw it at 12, but it wasn't seen again after that. My early u/s show a very thin wispy membrane but its really hard to see.

Hi all! I'm the friend in question that this thread was started for. I just wanted to thank you all for your responses and let you know that they did find a very thin membrane around 11 weeks. We are expecting mono/di twin girls this spring! :)
