We were thinking about starting to potty train just before they are 2. Is that too early? I have no clue!!

From what I have read, it seems the average for boys is between 3 and 4 years! I personally feel that they will decide when they are ready...my guys will be 2 thursday and when I see them going to the bathroom I always ask if they want to go on the potty and they ALWAYS shake their heads and say NO!!!!!! So I don't push it...the last thing I would want is for them to be scared of it...they will tell me when they are ready!

Wow, 3 between 3 and 4? I can't imagine still changing diapers at that age!

3 and 4 iS actually the norm. You may want to read the potty training thread on the top of this forum. Mine trained at 3 1/4 and 3 3/4.

The stat I read on day training for boys was 35mons (vs. 27mons for girls) in the US. So about 3yrs is average. Then maybe another 6mons for night trained. When I think of the boy's playmates, at age 3yrs now, the minority are trained. Sorry...don't mean to discourage you.

I never pushed my boys. At age 2yrs, they received an Elmo pottty doll as a present. That seemed to peak their interest. I bought potty chairs then. They started using them occasionally...and I never pushed it. Ben basically day and night trained himself at 34mons. Luke is just now finally "get it". I'm just trying to be patient with him.

As far as being there in the bathroom with them all day. It feels like that in the beginning! Now, Ben pees by himself all day. I randomly hear the toilet fushing throughout the day followed by him washing his hands. It's great! He just needs #2 assistance. He's very neat in the bathroom and has great aim. Luke is messier and uses the potty chair only. With 2 boys, you end up washing the floors in the bathroom and the toilet DAILY!!!

Michael was trained before 2. He trained at 21 months. He was holding it until bed and wetting through 2 diapers. He also loved doing everytihng Mommy did so he followed instructions well. He was so excited to go "no more diapers" I had to give him an honest chance. So I gave him an entire week in big boy undies. It did take him almost the whole week to get it but he was determined and wanted to train. After that he did have a few accidents here and there but not too many. Matthew had no desire and didn't want to train until 30 months. Finally at 30 months he came up to me and said no more diapers mommy and so that was when I trained him. It took him almost 2 months to poop in the potty instead of his pants but he really wanted to learn too.

You really have to go with your instinct and what you know about each child. They are different and will most likely be ready at different times so just look for signs and like I said trust your instinct.

Be supportive, consistent and firm once you make the decision and it will come. It was no way near as bad as I feared it would be.

2 of my boys were 2 1/2 and the other was 3. I didn't wait until the 3 yr. old was ready. He would have kept the diapers until he was 5! I just said, "You're 3 now, so let's use the potty!" He trained fast because he was older, but no faster than my other 3 kids. I don't think all kids come up to you and say they want to train, so you have to decide at some point that they are old enough and physically able to do it. I think 2 is too young, IMHO.
