When can they pull blankets up themselves?

My twins are 20 months now. They still don't know how to cover themselves up with their blankets when they are cold. It seems like such a simple thing to be able to do at their age. Do I need to actually teach them how to do this?

When did yours start covering themselves up?

My girls were like this. Even now they prefer NOT to have the blanket on them so I always try to dress them in warm jammies so I dont worry about them getting cold.

Mine are 31 months and still can't really do it . . . I just go into their rooms when I'm sure they're sound asleep and cover them up again if they've kicked off the blankets.

Why are sleep sacks not an option? Last winter we got the toddler ones with foot openings, which I will pull out again soon. They sleep with their feet tucked inside the sleepsack, but when they get up in the morning I pull their feet out so they can walk and do the stairs more easily.

I have never seen these toddler sleep sacks. They sound perfect. Where can you get them??

Mine use the toddler sleep sacks as well. You can order them from Halo directly or there are a few online sites (like Amazon) that sell them.

ETA: Halo has a twins discount -- be sure to ask for it if you order directly from them.

We don't do sleep sacks anymore, but we do use the footed pjs...how about those along with long-sleeved shirt/onesie under it?

My girls are 27 months and pretty good about covering themselves up. Morgan will even switch ends on her crib and take her pillow with her and she'll re-cover herself up.

You could always teach them how to do it...but I know when my twins were the age of yours, they wouldn't have understood the concept. They just now (this fall) understood how to do it themselves. They like to climb into our bed with us...they will get into the middle and we say, "Cover up" and showed them how to pull th eblanket up :)

You already received a great suggestion about the Halo toddler sacks...I think they go up to size 5T. Amazon & Target.com both carry them. I believe you have to order directly from Halo via phone to receive the twins discount.

Another option is the Sungabye Convert-a-foot sleepers. They have cotton or fleece for colder, wintery nights. These fold down to fully cover the foot like a slipper when the kids are sleeping (or running around a cold house), but can fold up for exposed feet too.

We received them as a gift last year, but my sister said she could only find them at Shopko (we don't have that chain here in Seattle). I happened upon them at Ross the other day (2 blanket-sleeper sets for $10)! I think Kmart also carries them, but there aren't any near me, so I can't vouge for that.

Hannah was doing it from the moment she started sleeping in her bed. She stays under her covers and can pull them up just fine to stay warm. Ben on the other hand is all over the place in his bed, and rarely under the covers. I just dress him in warmer jammies and that seems to do the trick.
