When can they eat raw carrots?

Mine are 21 months. They have almost all their teeth, but I'm scared to give them raw carrots. I've heard of moms giving their kids carrots with ranch dipping sauce. Are mine too young for this? When did yours start eating them?

Call me super paranoid; but I just gave
mine raw carrots about six months ago. ;)
And then they were cut into thin circles.

I usually buy the bag of small peeled organic baby carrots
and steam those until tender. Once cooled off, they
are perfect for dipping and softer to chew than raw carrots.
(yours could probably eat them like this!)

I've had mine choke on food and it was the WORST feeling
so I have always been one to be more cautious when it
comes to giving them food, especially cause Colin is one
of those eaters who will stuff as much as he can into his
    mouth.......drives me nuts!
(I still cut their grapes in half!!)

 I too am on the cautious side, and recently started doing the carrot sticks in super thin slices...........

I gave mine carrot sticks shortly after their second birthday and it only took Trent gagging and throwing up once to convince me that they don't need to eat raw carrots just yet. They love them and they do fine with biting some off and this is the only food that's ever been a problem but it scared the bejeepers out of me. They like onion and bell pepper raw so for now I just give those for the crunch effect.

ETA: I give them their carrots steamed just enough to be crisp-tender with ranch dressing and they love it.

Josh will be 22 mos this mo and I gave him his first baby carrot (one of the skinnier ones) this wknd and he did pretty good. He just gnawed on it a bit (teething his molars)and eventually would get pcs off of it. He got good practice and really loved it.
So I guess my answer would be that when you feel they are ready for it to give it to them.
Sean was ready for a carrot a lot sooner then Josh was.
I would try it and really watch the first couple of times

Pretty much when they had their molars, we started giving them the tiny baby carrots.

Mine LOVE carrots and eat them almost every day. It is one of the few veggies that I can gaurantee they'll eat. BUT, they refuse to eat them cooked. Go figure.

I second the molars. Before then you can give them the carrot slices but watch to make sure they're eating them ok.

I can't quite recall when I gave them mini carrots (cut in quarters & then halfs the long way), but when they were really little - I started giving them grated raw carrot. They loved it & I didn't worry about choking :) You can grate a lot of veggies if you try.
