When are they considered "Officially" walking?

We have gross motor delays and the girls have been late with pulling up, cruising, and walking. Now we are really close to a breakthrough! Maisy walks with me one-handed all over and is very agile but has yet to let go of my hand. She does walk 40 steps by herself when going from one person to another which is ?walking? but not initiated totally by her. In other words, she won't do it unless there are two people there. When are they officially walking? I thought it was when they pull up, or stand up by themselves and take that first step.

Hi Cindy! It sounds like they are doing great! Personally, I consider them 'walking' when they are taking more steps on their own, than they are crawling. Congratulations on the progress!! :clapping: :hug99:

Cindy, I consider it walking when they are taking many steps consistently, basically the same as Becky said. :)

Congrats! I consider it walking when they seem to prefer walking as their primary mode of transportation instead of crawling or scooting.

That's what I always thought. My DD has been pulling up, standing and cruising since January, but really just in the past 2 weeks has opted to walk OVER crawling. Now I consider her walking. She still falls down and stuff, but instead of crawling from that point, she stands back up and walks. DS is still too nervous to let go ... he just cruises all around.

Sounds like they are doing great, and before you know it, will be RUNNING around!
