Hannah has been wheezing since about Thursday. Both the girls had their RSV vaccines on Friday so DH told the pedi when he was there. Did an RSV test, it was negative but she has an ear infection. He asked if we had a breathing machine, we don't. So he prescribed alburterol (sp) to take orally. This is the second time they have done this. Yesterday she did not sound any better. This morning she still sounded pretty bad so I called and talked to the respiratory therapist at the pedi office. I told him I had a friend who has a machine I can use (she doesn't use it anymore, perfect shape) so they called in a prescription for the inhalant. I've only given her one treatment so far but hopefully this is the solution. The therapist said this is much better than the oral medicine because it's not going into the whole body. Anybody else ever have to do these breathing treatments? Any success?

About a month ago my girls both had bronchiolitis and they prescribed us the oral Albuterol at first and I swear it didn't do anything to help them. A couple days later after they weren't getting any better, they ordered us a nebulizer and we started the breathing treatments. It made such a huge difference!!

I hope Hannah is feeling better soon!!

Thanks Kyrstyn, yea, I don't think this oral stuff does anything. They didn't want to do the breathing treatments at first because it was short term but when I told them I did have a machine they happily ordered the meds...

I know (from first hand experience) that the nebulizers are great for the immediate relief of breathing problems. The inhalers seem to work more on a baseline/long term sort of thing.

We've never had to use a nebulizer, but my oldest DD has had to use an inhaler since she was 2. Whenever she gets a cough it goes right to her chest. Yes, they do work much better than oral medications. I hope she is feeling better soon.

We don't have a neb, but J has an albuterol inhaler that we use w/ a spacer. Seems to work well. I still am not 100% it's our "final answer" but I do think it helps!

We have 2 nebulizers & love them. They work wonders. This year it seems to be tapering off. We are hoping the boys are starting to out-grow the breathing problems. Dh insurance paid for both & we always have the med to put in.
