My Meara was a grunter. It freaked me out because I'd never heard a baby grunt. Some of it was reflux/gas and some was just her way of communicating I guess. In case you are wondering, she doesn't do it anymore.

My baby girl has grunted since the day we brought her home I think - 48 hours after birth. DS grunts when he's eating and stretching. I think in his case he's asserting his personality, or showing he likes to stretch and eat. Her's is just a signature noise. It's better than DS's, which is a billie goat noise  .

Carley has started grunting the past few weeks! At first I was a little concerned (why I don't know) but she hasn't been acting any different in any other ways. they are getting very "verbal" now and i think this is her way of communicating. It's kind of cute now. I think it's very normal too.

Mine did that, too, when they were that young...and snored! Don't worry, it will pass...try to videotape it!! LOL

Oh, that brings back memories! Mine were such grunters in the first months. I think it was just all the hard work of moving stuff around their intestines. :)

Mine were big time grunters due to reflux issues. I had to get a white noise machine in the bedroom just so I could get 30 minutes of sleep before I had to get up again. And now at 1 year, guess who STILL has the stupid white noise machine...ME!!

My son, a silent refluxer, is also a grunter. When he starts grunting in bed I know it is time to call the ped. to see if he has outgrown his dose of AXID (reflux meds) and usually adjusting the dose as his weight increases puts the grunting to an end.

Our Sarah (also with newborn reflux) was a BIG grunter...
Oddly enough, now six, she'll STILL grunt on occasion...but I think it's for effect now!

Funny those baby "things" that are by the looks of this thread seemingly common, but no one really talks about/lets you know beforehand! ;)
If you're worried, call the pediatrician...never hurts to have some reassurances of normalcy. :)

Mine are very congested all the time and snort when they cry hard ... so funny!
