I tend to read all the posts on here about sleep (as I'm sure most do). I'm seeing that a lot of people have an early bed time of about 5:30-6:00. I find this VERY early. If it works though hey, go for it. I know my two take a pate nap at that time for about 30-45 minutes. Our bed time is at 8:00. I'm just wondering what are your bed times? I've tried earlier times (7:00) but it never fails that they are ready to play at 5:00. At least at 8:00 they sleep until 6:30-7:00 (at least they did until they started with this darn cold). So what time do yoi put your babies down.

I assume your kiddos are still taking 3 naps since you said they take that late nap. When our boys were doing that, their bedtime was around 7:45-8pm. Once they dropped that catnap (I think it was around 8 months, but I can't remember), their bedtime became 7:15-7:30. Even now at 13.5 months, if we put them down before 7:15, they are up before 6am. If we put them down 7:15-7:30, they sleep until 6:30 or 7am. Everyone has to do what works for them, but if our guys went to bed at 6pm, they would be up REALLY early, which is not cool for us. DH has to get up at 6:45am to get ready for work, so our current schedule works well for us.

The girls go down for the night about 7pm *ocasionally don't fall asleep until 7:30 or 8 depending on if our schedule was off*
They wake up for the day about 7 or 7:30.

    Naps are nightmare here

We start the bedtime routine at 6 or so...and they are in their cribs by 645-7 at the latest.

We just dropped that cat nap... and so we moved bedtime to 630 for a week or so, but are back to 645. They get up at 7ish.

What if you put them to bed earlier and bottled/nursed them at 5, and put them back down...do you think they could sleep until 7 or 8?

We say it's 7:30 and aim for that time but 7:00-7:15 is typical. If they haven't napped well then sometimes they are even ready by 6:30-6:45pm.

When they were at three naps, bedtime was 7 or 7:30, but now it's 6:15 or 6:30 depending on how naps went... so usually 6:15.

I did bedtime at 8pm from 5 months to 11 months. It was what worked best for us. Since then bedtime is at 7pm

I put my girls to bed at 8. That is what works for our family! 530-600 is way to early- then dh would not see them as he does not get home til 6.

Mine did 6pm to 6:30 am until a little after a year. They COMPLETELY decided their own EARLY bedtime and I went w/ it. They still ASK to go down by 7:30pm and they're 3 and 1/2.

My girls don't go to bed for the night until around 9:30-10:00. I like it this way because often we are out and about much earlier than that. In the morning they sleep until 9:30-10:00am....I get up around 7am and have around 3 hours to get some cleaning done. This works for us! 6pm-7pm sounds CRAZY EARLY to me :)

We used to do 6:30ish until they stopped napping well... so now we are 5:30-6:00 and sleep until 6. It's crazy early but we are an absolute MESS if we don't nap and we go past 6:30ish... we tried a bit later.. like 7 and they started waking at night... I'm hoping as they get older they will be able to go to bed closer to 7 or 7:30.

Lol I thought only mine had late bed time. They go to bed 930-10, wake up at 730 have bottles, go down until 930-10, then nap from 11n wake up, go down again around 4-430. So I don't count the first nap at all. I would love love them to go to bed around 830. But their sys work like clockwork can't change :(

Mine always went to bed between 5:30 and 6:30. After a year, it became 7:00. Just in the last 6 months, it is 7:30 to 8. I appreciate the sentiment that my choice in bedtime was crazy though. I work, and my kids are up between 6 and 7 on weekdays. Working back 12-13 hours gets to 5:30 to 6:30. (Plus, they will have to get up for school eventually, and im a morning person.) I also believe that sleep begets sleep--putting them to bed earlier does not mean that they necessarily get up earlier. My kids rarely fought going to bed, took good naps, and were always well rested and well behaved. Plus, DH and I had time together after they went to bed. It was absolutely perfect for us. For my life, putting them down at 9:30 or 10 seems crazy. There is no right or wrong choice--if what you are doing works for you, that's all you should be worrying about.

Agreed. People thought we were "crazy" for putting them to bed at 6-630 but when we had to wake them for daycare at 6 it was awful! They would sleep in on my days off until 7-730 though which I know to some is still early but it worked for us. They have just recently since they turned 2 started staying up until 7...and actually once they were close to 1 their bedtime floated if we had something to do anyways:) Whatever works for you!!!

When my guys were still taking a third cat nap, bedtime was around 8pm. Now that they've dropped the cat nap, bedtime is closer to 7:30. I'll be glad when they go back to 8 just so I can get some extra time in the evening with them. They sleep until 6:30-7am, though they stir starting around 5:30, but always put themselves back to sleep until usually around 6:45am or so. I hear about how early bedtimes means they sleep longer in the morning (I would love it if they slept until 9-10am!), but I'm scared to try it. Plus since I work, I feel I would miss out on a lot of time with them. We never tried the 5am to get them to sleep longer in the mornings. I wonder if it would have worked for us!

My twins go to bed at 6pm. They fall asleep around 6:15.
    Gets up 7am.
    1st nap 9-11am
    2nd nap 1-3pm
    No 3rd nap.

Hmmm I would love them to go to bed at 8-830. But no matter we try, they just don't. Like today, we woke them up earlier and pushed their naps up a bit. They were tired at 730. And we sent them to bed. I hoped so much that they would sleep through the night. But they woke up at 8 and stay up until now. Driving me crazy. I have heard so much mamas here put their twins down earlier. But it just doesn't work for us.I just gave up but still try to put them down something, but it doesn't work. Its like programmed in their sys ahhhhh

At 23 months we go to bed at 6:30 pm. We were in a pattern for a while where we didn't put them down until 8 pm because it seemed like we moved to that time, but it was bogus. They wake up at 6 am no matter if they go to bed at 6:30 or 10 pm. Until about 18 mos they went to bed between 5:30 - 6. Their nightly sleep needs have decreased to about 11 hours. Used to be 12-13 hours. Natural progression. Anyway, I am at home and don't have a time schedule to uphold...I wish they would sleep until 8 am but I think they are just morning people. They wake up chipper at 5:30/6. Sucks. :) I do think you just figure out what works for your family and ensure maximum sleep for them. If they always wake up grumpy in the morning or after naps probably need a closer look.
