For the last week Peyton wakes up crying in the middle of the night, but then falls right back to sleep. Do any of you have any ideas as to why he does this or how to stop it from happening? TIA! I'm afraid he may wake up Eli one of these times. They sleep within 2 ft of each other.

I think sometimes they have a bad dream or something and it stops pretty abruptly (around here at least) and they VERY rarely wake each other. It's pretty amazing what they will sleep through!

Both Chloe and Cole do this, but more Chloe. She will wake up and cry/scream for 30 seconds then fall back asleep. I asked our pedi at our last appintment and she said is was probably just waking and not realizing where she was, then settling back in. It rarely wakes Cole. Like Diane said, "it's amazing what they can sleep through!!"

He could be cutting teeth. Mine seem to do that when they are cutting teeth. It comes and goes in phases. Most of the time they do not wake each other up, but I usually try not to go in the room because it usually makes it worse.

It's normal for them to occasionally wake and cry for a moment between sleep cycles. I have also noticed that it happens more often during teething or illness. If they do more like thrashing around or a progressive moaning to screaming to panic sort of thing, then you'll want to read about confusional arousals. We have both around here and I've become quite the nap nazi to head off the issues.

I've also noticed that they'll sleep through each other screaming or the washing machine/dryer/dishwasher/lawn mower/thunderstorm/vacuum cleaner but me walking into the room wakes them right up!

Most of our kids talk in their sleep and a few will get up and walk. Two of our kids wake up and will scream (one of them is our boy twin) some nights it happens several time during the night. It's more difficult on me than anyone else. I'm the only one who can't sleep through it. <_<

Our twins have always slept in the same room. I can count on one hand the number of time they have waken each other. Usually, it was when they were both sick at the exact same time.

All of our kids have learned to tune out noises from the other kids.

Amy was doing this once or twice a night for a few months -- it has only recently stopped, at least for now. I figured it was just a developmental thing (she wasn't teething at the time). She seemed to get back to sleep really fast (or at least, she stopped making noise -- it was usually less than a minute) and felt fine in the morning, so I tried not to worry about it, although it was annoying to get woken with a jolt at 4 a.m.

I was actually going to post about it at the time, because it seemed like everyone talked about their kids either sleeping through or not, but no one mentioned these random brief squawks.

They wake each other up in the mornings, but in the middle of the night, the only time one baby has been bothered by the other was when Sarah was throwing up and it woke Amy. And I think what woke Amy was actually DH and me making a big fuss, coming in and turning on the light, etc. -- not so much Sarah's crying.

That is so true! Spencer cries in the night too. He will wake and cry for about 30 seconds and then abruptly stop and go right back to sleep. He also moves around his crib a ton and moans in his sleep. But, like pp have said, they don't wake each other up.

So I guess I shouldn't worry about it! Thanks for your comments!

Teeth? How long as it been going on? Amber would do this for about a couple of weeks and then suddenly stop and then we'd find a new tooth.
