What's for breakfast?

We're in a rut -- frozen waffles, scrambled eggs, cream of wheat. (I've tried oatmeal -- they didn't like it -- will try again soon.) Any other suggestions for other things that are fast and healthy?

It's a rush getting all of us to work and daycare in the morning, so I don't have time for anything that takes more than 5 minutes. I'd prefer to avoid anything too packaged or processed (I know, frozen waffles are packaged, but at least they're healthy and fairly simple).

For all I know, the girls would be happy to eat the same thing every day, but I'm bored!

Frozen pancakes (commercial or home made.)
    Bagels with cream cheese
Grilled cheese or PBJ sandwiches (who says they have to be limited to lunch)
Banana chunks rolled in crushed cheerios

Anything not nailed down!!! [IMG] Seriously, my boys eat a TON for breakfast. It is by far their biggest meal of the day. Here are some that we do. Usually 3-4 off this list:
    ~~Frozen, microwavable mini pancakes
    ~~Frozen waffle, toasted
    ~~Banana
    ~~Brown sugar oatmeal
    ~~Scrambled egg with american cheese
    ~~Blueberry muffins on the weekend
~~Cold cereal (usually Life) I pour in the milk and then spoon out just the cereal part into their bowl
    ~~Yogurt

    HTH!

For us it's a choice of: waffles, oatmeal, cold cereal (they like Kix and corn flakes), and sometimes they want just toast (with butter or cream cheese). I guess a frozen bagel or an english muffin could also be an option. Plus fruit, always fruit.

Oh, and also, I often make a big batch of pancakes on the weekend and keep the leftovers in the fridge for early in the week. They microwave nicely, but making them fresh is annoying during busy weekday mornings.

I am so glad you started this thread! I've been having problems with breakfast too. Lately we've had yogurt with fruit mixed in and toast with cream cheese or scrambled eggs with cheese on top. They love bagels with cream cheese too but it's a pain cutting it up because they get choked on it too easy.

My boys revolted totally on oatmeal lately....they really want to feed themselves now. If you try oatmeal again I would mix in a level 3 fruit to make it taste better if you havent already done that. [IMG]

Thanks everyone! I should have said that they also get fruit and yogurt.

I'll have to try again with putting something (cream cheese, jam, etc.) on their toast. (We're waiting till they're at least 2 for PB.) The first time I did it, they were very suspicious and wouldn't eat it. [IMG]

I like the eggs-in-microwave idea! I never would have thought of that, but can't see why it wouldn't work. I could also chop/steam some veggies the night before, and toss them into the eggs. And I could make up a batch of pancakes on the weekend and freeze them. (I do that with bran muffins.)

    Lots of good ideas here!

This morning I gave them tortellini (left over from my dinner last night), but they only ate a little. Mostly they had dry cheerios (because I was eating cheerios and when they saw them, they wanted some), fruit, and yogurt. Not so bad I guess.

I made a loaf of "improved" pumpkin bread over the weekend (replacing the nuts with raisins, substituting whole wheat flour, and replacing some of the sugar with molasses...) Spread it with some cream cheese and YUM!

We do pancakes, whole wheat mini bagels with 100% fruit preserves, banana nut or blueberry muffins, french toast(which also gets the egg in), peaches, bananas, pears, yogurt, nutrigrain bars, cheerios, omelet stuffed with cheese and scrambled eggs with cheese, toast with preserves and sausage every once in a while.

We buy big boxes of 48 Cinnimon Toast Waffles (President's Choice Brand, for those fellow CND's)and my kids love them most days. I have tried regular waffles and Blueberry waffles with not much luck.
Both kids would eat eggs nearly every day (fresh farm eggs, for the most part), but just recently, my ds has wanted nothing to do with eggs. My dd will eat them, though. Sometimes I'll put a bit of cheese or ketchup in them.

    -yogurt
    -cherrios
    -raisins
    -fruit
    -apple sauce
-oatmeal (something flavored, my dh likes to mix in some baby cereal, too, for added Iron and Vitamins. We will also mix yogurt in to the oatmeal some days)
-carrot loaf (when we have it!!!)
    -PB&J
    -Toast

My ds has been a really picky eater, lately. He spits out more than he'll eat, most days. So, so frustrating!!

At that age, we did yogurt with pureed fresh fruit mixed in and frozen waffles almost every day. Then around 18 months we went through an oatmeal phase, then we went through an omelet & sausage phase, and now we're in a Cheerios (w/ milk) and yogurt phase. My girl tend to get sort of "locked on" to a particular breakfast and then they suddenly revolt and we have a week where we try to figure out what we're moving on to next. Basically after Christmas I started waking up to two little voices calling, "Mooooommmmmmy!!! Chee-os! Mommy! Chee-os!" from their bedroom. [IMG]

Anyway, sometimes we do cinnamon toast or bagel w/ cream cheese, fresh fruit, but Cheerios + yogurt is the backbone of our current breakfast plan!

Mine love oatmeal when I mash a banana or add raisins to it. Another favorite here is to spread some Smuckers low sugar strawberry jam onto a Whole Wheat Eggo Waffle. Another thing you could try are the eggo pancakes. Mine love bisquick ones though. So I would suggest making a big batch and refrigerating/freezing them. I add berries, bananas, etc. and they love it! Fresh fruit is always good too. Maybe with some yogurt or cottage cheese. A bowl of cheerios is quick too! HTH [IMG]
