So my OB tells me yesterday that if I wanted I could have a vaginal delivery...we thought I would have to do a c/s because of placenta previa, but its corrected itself. I just don't know what to do. Baby A is head down and very low, Baby B is breech, but OB feels comfortable delivering this way. I do have to deliver in the OR and its recommended to have an epidural in case. DH is really pushing for c-section b/c is more controlled. I had vag with Danika and ending up having 4 degree tears and having reconstruction surgery a little bit later, so as long as these babies are too big, my OB feels confident I shouldn't tear. My only big fears with a c/s is the recovery time and the babies not recieving the benefit of the 'vag squeeze' and with the vag, I am not sure I could actually push two babies out and of course the fear that the first will be vag and second be c/s....what would you do??? what was easier/best for you???
Personally I am a big fan of c/s's!! But that is because I am a wuss and can't handle pain. MY c/s with my son was amazing. I was completely recovered in 2 weeks and felt no pain durign and after delivery.
I don't have any experience of delivering twins, but I wanted to tell you my second singleton delivery was SOOOO much better than my first. Quicker, easier, no drugs, no tears - the complete opposite of my first.
I personally am hoping for a vaginal delivery, unfortunately my doc wont deliver either babies breech. I had vaginal with my son 12 years ago and it was a good experience, not perfect, but good. I am so afraid to have a c/s and then have to climb stairs and take care of two babies.
Vaginal all the way. I had my babies, no problems, no tears, nothing... and was able to drive myself to the NICU to be with them. (3&4 - but my stance the whole time was NO C... I had the first vag. delivery of twins in my hospital in 8 years!) I flat out told them I did NOT have time to recover from major surgery.
I was totally prepared for a C-S my entire pregnancy because of the positions my girls were in. I found out on a Tuesday that they had moved and were both head down and I could deliver vaginally. I ended up going into labor the next day and literally had 24 hours to think about a vaginal delivery and psych (sp?) myself up for it. I ended up delivering vaginally and don't regret it at all!!! I also had pretty bad tears, but they have healed nicely. Your recovery time is WAY shorter with a vaginal birth. I was just telling my husband how happy I was that I didn't have a c-section, even though I had planned on it my entire pregnancy. Good luck! I wish you an uneventful delivery and healthy babies!
Well I've never had a vag so I can't help you there, but for myself, I think even if I hadn't had 2 c/s already I would go with a c/s if one is breech, for the simple fact that recovering from 2 birth's is going to be much harder than recovery from a single one...just in case the second one gets stuck, kwim? As for recovery, my recovery of my planned c/s with my dd was a breeze, we both came home 2 days after birth. Yes, I was sore, but I only used the pain meds for a day or two after getting home before I was able to deal with it without medication. My emergency c/s with my ds was much harder to recover from because I labored for 12 hrs with pitocin, had some iv pain meds that knocked my butt out and THEN had the c/s. It was a really horrible delivery (well, I don't remember 90% of it actually), and the recovery was much harder.

Well with my son I had a c/s and im planning on a c/s this time as well they just havent decided when yet ! I would honestly go c/s all the way !!! the recovery isn't bad at all !!
I had mine vaginally and don't regret it at all. I trusted my OB, I knew I was in a great hospital and if something happened, they had me deliver in the OR. Everyone was prepared for a c/s but I didn't need one. I can't imagine recovering from surgery while caring for 2 newborns. Think about what you feel comfortable with and go with that. No one else has to go through it so you make the decision. Good luck!
I had all of my kids vaginally and I wouldn't have it any other way.My first birth was tough, 22 hours and a 4 degree tear, but I survived and recovered without incedent. My twins were both head down and I was determined to have a vaginal birth which ended up being wonderful. I was only in labor for 5 hours from the start of pitocin to placental delivery. The birth was also drug free simply because epidurals do not work on me. Having an older child, like you, I would try for a vaginal delivery for so many reasons unless you will have 24hr a day help for a couple of weeks. You are not supposed to lift anything heavier than a newborn, you are not supposed to climb lots of stairs, you are not allowed to drive for a few weeks, etc. Even if you are not in that much pain (which I am amazed when people say they had no pain), there are other restrictions you have to deal with that are no fun. My best friend completely forgot about the pain she was in and how difficult it was to get around after her first c-section and opted for another with her second child. She was blown away at how restricted she felt and how much actual pain there was doing things like getting out of bed and laughing; and not being able to drive was awful b/c she was so used to being on the go and very independent. She was lucky to have her husband home 24/7 for 3 weeks, so she didn't have to do everything herself, but she felt awful for her older child and how he suffered because she could be so hand on with him due to the surgery. If your OB is comfortable with a breech extraction, I say you should at least try a vaginal delivery. You could be up and walking the halls an hour after birth and feeling great like I was. The second vaginal birth was such a better experience than the first and it usually is much easier. Good luck no matter which you choose. You will be happy because you'll have 2 new babies to love, right?! Kelly

I had vaginal birth with one head down and one breech. the recovery was great. they were over 5bs each and no tears or any problems. since we both had kids before, it is much easier the next time around, especially if they are smaller. you never know when you will deliver so guessing how big they will be when you deliver is kind of a shot in the dark. i recommend vaginal birth because you will be so busy when you get home you will not want to be recovering from a c section. it will also help sqeeze out the fluid in their lungs to give them the best shot at life possible! i had an epi but it didnt take effect because baby a wanted to come out so quick! it helps that your baby is low like mine was because labor was so fast it was over within 2 hours!trust your doc! you can do it!
I would never opt for surgery if I didn't have to have it. I had my girls vaginally, and baby B was breech, too. Recovery was quick and easy. I had had a 3rd degree tear (and needed 17 stitches) with one of my older kids and it was an awful and long recovery, so I understand where you're coming from. After that, I told every person who was going to be part of my deliveries, that that was a fear of mine... with both DS#2, and the girls. I only had very small tears with all three (and didn't need any stitches at all), and I think it was in part the fact that my midwife and then OB were aware and able to help stretch and support down there, to help it not happen. Talk to your OB about your worries.
My vaginal delivery with my twins was awesome! I was also in the OR, just in case, and had an epidural- quite nice compared to not having one the first time around. Joe (A) was vertex and Margaux (B) was breech- things could not have gone smoother- honestly! I would never go back and choose a c-section; my recovery time was absolutely NOTHING! Good luck! Kirsten
After having a c-section and then two VBACs (both with babies that weighed more than the twins combined ), I would never do a c-section if it was possible to avoid it. If you have a doctor who is comfortable with a breech Baby B, a vaginal delivery is actually very safe. The issue with breech babies actually only arises when your doctor isn't used to breech deliveries. C-sections are the most common surgery in the country but it is still surgery and puts you and your babies are risk. Vaginal deliveries are something that women have been doing for thousands of years and your body knows what to do. Here is a link to a French study where they were actually doing vaginally deliveries with Baby A breech and they found no more negative outcomes for the babies when they did vaginal versus c-section births. http://cat.inist.fr/?aModele=afficheN&cpsidt=18430083
Thanks girls for the advice!!!! I think I am going to go ahead with the vag delivery, my only concern would be one of my OBs partners is fairly new and I am not sure how many she has done before, so now I guess it just depends on who is on-call for the delivery. I feel much better that I can actually do a vag delivery...I am actually kind of excited about it now !?! Hopefully it won't be too long now....
