Hey ladies, I purchased two new Britax Roundabout car seats when I had my daughter four years ago. The were used with my daughter and my son who was two at the time. I love these carseats - they are like the safest I have ever seen. I want to use them with the twins, but will be about five years old by the time the twins are big enough to use them. They have never been in an accident and have only been used by my kids. I don't think we can afford two new Britax's - so if I have to purchase new seats they will just be cheap seats. Would you use the Britaxs or purchase new, crappy brand seats? I am really leaning towards using them - I just wanted other people's opinions. Angel
I believe the lifespan on Britax seats is 6 years from date of manufacture...someone please correct me if I'm wrong. You can find the date of manufacture on the seat. That being said, I would definitely use them until the lifespan is up, then you'll be in a better position to pick new seats that will meet the needs of your kids at that time. If you do decide to get new seats now, please don't think you have to sacrifice safety if you can't afford 2 new Britax seats. There are lots of nice, safe seats out there that don't cost as much $$. Here's a link to one that's actually made by Britax...the shell is identical to the Marathon...it harnesses up to 55 lbs. & has tall top harness slots so it should last until your kids are ready for a booster. http://www.albeebaby.com/fiprsavodeco2.html Sorry for all the extra info..I just finished researching car seats for my kids...can't you tell!
Yes would use them and I did too! I had my dds RA which was a 2000 model and my good friend gave me her son's 01 Roundabout too. So I used those until they expired (6 years from DOM). Then I got one NEW Marathon and the same friend gave me her Marathon that her son outgrew! So I now have an 04, and 05 Marathons that I hope to use until they expire or when my boys outgrow them! I wish they made MAs back in 2000 as my 7 year old can STILL fit into her brother's MA!!! She did not outgrow her RA until almost 5! My petite little thang! FWIW, I would NEVER use a USED carseat from someone I dont know peronally or buy one on ebay or craigslist or at a consignment shop.
Here in Canada as along as it was bought here in Canada, it hasn't been in an accident and it is less than 10 years old it is good to go.

My two car seats are used and are probably about 3 years old now. I got them from a friend who was done having children. They work fine and they were never in an accident. Save $$$, use the "used" seats!
if it is past the expiration date stamped on the seat, I would buy new seats. But I wouldn't buy "crappy brand" seats as there are good quality seats available at more affordable price ranges. If the expiration date hasn't passed yet, I'd use them until that date came around
