What we should have done the first few times we cut his hair!

DS has an amazing head of hair...thick, full of body and a beautiful shade of blonde (DD will be jealous when she is older, as she has thin hair prone to tangles!). It is so thick that I am terrified to even attempt cutting it myself!

He had his first hair cut when he turned one at a great, kids-only salon...that appointment wasn't too bad, but he kept swatting the hair-stylist's hand away every time she was near his ears or face. We had him sitting in a kid's chair (a wood-carved whale) plugged with a pacifier and let him hold a comb (which he found fascinating).

The second appointment was TERRIBLE...we used DH's quick and cheap place on a whim. Bad decision...DS started crying and writhing half-way through the appointment...the stylist had already cut one side of his hair and we had to keep going! I thought for sure we would never be able to cut his hair again.

For the third appointment, we took him back to the kids-only salon...we strapped him on the special whale, positioned him right in front of a TV screen playing Dora or something, and handed him toys left and right to keep him distracted. It worked for awhile, but he quickly started to melt down and the stylist sped through the cut to get it done. It was exhausting as we all tried to keep him from coming unglued while she finished his hair.

But today...it was amazing! We took him back to the kids-only place and let him play in the back playroom for a bit to get comfortable. We had a different stylist than the previous times, but she knew we had been in before and asked how the other appointments had gone. I told her that he wasn't the most cooperative kiddo...and she then insisted that he sit on my lap for the hair cut as she thought it would really help him. It worked like a charm!!! :woohoo: She spent about 20 minutes with us and he looks so handsome :)

I know it isn't a new idea to let them sit on your lap, but I wish I had known that it would make such a difference...I would have done that for the very first appointment!

Thanks for sharing! When we got both of our kids hair cuts they sat on either my lap or DH's lap. Another thing that I found helpful was the mirror, that was a great distraction for both my DS and DD.

ETA: I don't understand how to add a link to photos in FB?? Can you see the correct "before" picture, or does it just pull up the same "after" picture? Ugh...someday the kiddos will grow up and teach ME how to use these things!!!

when you go to the pic on your FB page, right click on it. select properties. highlight the URL next to where it says location (you may need to triple click somewhere in the address to get it to highlight properly). if you have a PC, hit Ctrl+C to copy the address. if you have a Mac, hit Command+C.

in the TS post page, click on the link button (to the right of the emoticon button) and paste the URL where it says URL (Ctrl+V or Command+V) & type whatever text you would like in the link text field. then hit insert link. HTH!

Wow glad for you it worked. I took one of my little boys in this weekend for his first haircut. Half way through even sat him on my lap, but unfortunately he was too in awe of the hair dresser, he just wanted to stair at her the whole time, kept trying to turn around and stare at her,or grab her comb, even though he had too, crazy kid! It turned out cute, he looks more like a toddler now but any other suggestions to get them to sit still would be great....if that's even possible.

BTW, i saw you were asking how to do pictures, i can't figure out how to do the tickets on the bottom of your signature.

There are a few sites that do tickers for forums, but the ones I use are from Lilypie. You create a ticker with the text, background and slider that you want, save it, and when you're done you can click on the PseudoHTML, UBBCode and BB Code link and copy/paste the code that it provides.

    Hope this helps! :)
