I'm sure there is a thread about this some where, but I can't seem to find it. They are talking about discharging me tomorrow and I don't know what kind of pads to use at home. I've never used pads so I have no personal preference. I am trying to get some of these underwear they have here, the "fishnet" looking things, they are soooo comfortable!!! Especially with the C-section. So what do you guys think?

    Congrats!!
I agree the fishnet underwear are fantastic! By the time I went home (3days post c-section), a regular pad was fine for me. I HATE pads! I'm 6.5wks postpartum and I just got my period again, but haven't had my 6wk check yet, so I'm back on the pad train...gggrrr!

I hope your feeling well, and your babies continue to do well!

I prefer night time pads to maternity pads. I bought some very inexpensive cotton underwear in a multipack to wear for the first week or two. If they got stained, I threw them out. I used the paper underwear after I gave birth to my first and they were so uncomfortable.

Before you are discharged ask your nurse for some extra pairs of the underwear and stock up on the hospital pads. That's what I did. Then I sent my best friend to the store and she bought me a wide assortment of all the biggest pads she could find. I wound up using them all b/c the bleeding lasted what felt like forever. I'd just get an assortment of all the overnight with wings pads. I was the same as you, I never used pads before I was pregnant so I didn't know what kind to get.

CONGRATULATIONS!!! I agree with pp. I had a nurse that was super sweet and she got me a whole bag of those pads and extra diapers too. I really didn't care for the fish net things so I just wore the granny panties I had. Try to make friends with a nurse and I bet she will make you a goodie bag too.

The hospital sent me home with a whole package of the "sexy" ;) but comfy fishnet undies. By the time I went home...4 days after section...the bleeding was low enough to just need a regular package (not overnight...I found those were way too big...I hate pads too). I use the Always Ultra Thin in the yellow striped package. I still have days I spot a bit but a panty liner would take care of that (5 weeks today).

I asked for extra undies/pads and was given some by the hospital. I also found that when I ran out of the pads, the overnight pads with wings worked great for me too. Good luck!

I made sure to get as many of the hospital mesh underwear as I could. I ended up having to send DH to buy some granny panties when I ran out. Send a woman instead - he still got some sexy ones. ;)
I needed the overnight pads the whole time, I had really heavy bleeding for 6 weeks.

    ^ this!

usually if you ask the nurses will give you all kinds of freebie supplies. i was sent home with a duffel bag stuffed with supplies to get me through the yucky phase.

I was given some from the hospital also but then used overnight one like others have said. I also bought some "granny panties" that came above my incision instead of sitting right on it. Congrats on going home!

I didn't get comfy fishnet panties at my hospital. I just wore bikini underwear because it didn't rub on my incision. And I used overnight thin pads with wings. I wore maternity yoga pants for about two weeks straight after my c-section because they were comfy and didn't rub on anything. GL being discharged.

I got some of the comfy undies from the nurse also. She suggested that I wash them if need be instead of throw them out if they got stained. I was afraid I would run out, so I started washing them - now I have 2 or 3 packages that are brand new left over. It took me a while to heal (I went home with staples) so those were a lifesaver! I also used the overnight pads with wings at first. Then moved to the thin pads after about a week at home. I'm not a big fan of pads, but it wasn't that bad....Congrats!

For what it's worth, and I admit it seems odd...my girlfriend recommended Depends. I was hesitant, but ILOVED THEM! All the nurses thought it was a great idea...comfy, no leakage, and you could rip them off if it was still too hard to get to your feet! If you can get aound the mental block, I thought they were great. :D

I asked my nurse to give a few packs of the fishnet underwear. I also sent my husband to the store to get me the Stayfree overnight pads with wings. They worked GREAT! Also, I like the idea of buying a pack of cheap underwear so that if it gets stained you can toss it. I wish I thought of that because I bled for almost three months. (I was on the Depo so that may be why)

I haven't worn pads since I first got my period in 7-8th grade. So, I DREADED the thought of wearing them again!!!

I found that Always Overnight w/ Wings worked great...and I just moved down in absorbency as my flow decreased.
