DD has an allergy to eggs, and I used to give her milk products (cheese, yogurt etc), but her skin was so bad (eczema) that I stopped to see if it would get better. It seems to be a bit better now without using milk products. So I am thinking that as I transition her off of breastfeeding over the next month, I need to put her on something else other then milk. For any of you that don't use milk products, what do you switch to when you were done formula/breastfeeding?

We thought my DD had a milk protein 'allergy' or intolerance. .so we gave her the Silk Soy Milk, until the gastro DR said that she doesnt think thats what the problem was. (she was constipated all the time and screamed when she passed a BM)
My DD didnt like the plain kind, so we got the vanilla one, and she loved it.. but she is back to eating milk products, and we just have to give her Miralax..

Cody got real bad excema when I quit breast feeding him. It never dawned on me that it was the milk in his formula. At 11 months someone saw him & said he is allergic to his milk. Put him on soy & the excema cleared right up. Now he drinks the silk soy milk & has no problems. I did not stop feeding him dairy products though. He loves cheese & yogurt & the such. As long as his milk is soy than he doesn"t seem to have any reactions to having the other stuff.

Can you get your daughter allergy tested? If you do, you'll know how severe her milk allergy is. If it's not severe, you can give her yogurt and cheese probably with no issues. Soy milk is usually used for kids with milk allergies, but you could also do goat milk. Most children with a milk protein intolerance don't react to goats milk. It's sold at Trader Joes and Whole Foods.

McKenna had a mild allergy to dairy too. We gave them fortified almond milk and fortified rice milk for the first 3 or 4 months or so after they were done with formula. Then we started mixing a little whole milk at a time until they were reaction free with a full bottle of whole milk. I didn't give them soy milk because I'm personally not comfortable with the levels of phytoestrogens that are in it. Honestly, if we had the money right now, we'd only buy organic milk because I don't like all the hormones in our dairy either.

ETA: I just wanted to add that I know a ton of people who feed their babies soy milk with no ill effects whatsoever and that's great for them. But my DH and his sister were both fed soy formula from infancy and they've both had to deal with hormonal issues for most of their lives. The science is still out on whether or not there's a correlation, but given the family history, it wasn't something I want to experiment with on my own babies.
