I'm at a loss at what to give my ds for constipation. When he was younger it was easier because he'd drink prune juice or eat prunes, but now he's very picky and can tell me no. <_< We haven't dealt with this in a long time, so what can I give him to relieve him? Thank you!!

    :thanks:

    Hey Liz,

Pears always work in this house.

My neighbor gives her daughter a little bit of hot chocolate (cocoa) and that does the trick for them.

    Good Luck!

    Coffee!! Sorry couldnt resist.

Pear juice works well here too and even an apple juice box. The novelty of the juice box makes them want to suck it all down.

Lots of Apple Juice works for us!

If you can't find an over the counter way you may try a prescription...

There is a super mild laxative for preggo women and little kids called Lactulose. Or, you could try a glyceryin suppository. (Or, you could just explain to him what a suppository is and give him the choice between that and prunes! LOL!

Lots of water. If that doesn't work, watered down juice. My girls never get juice so they will drink it because its something new. to your lil boy.

I have the same problem with both of mine. I asked the ped and she said to put a 1/4 cap of miralax in their juice every morning. They don't know the difference!

I was going to suggest apple juice as well. And have him lay off the cheese and ease up on the milk since they can be constipating. Hope he feels better. I had to give Caroline one of those glycerin suppositories when she was little and it was not fun. :nea:

    Thank you ladies. :give_rose:

I'm going to try everything and anything before I do the suppositories. :woah: I did those when he was 3/4 months old and it was :bad: Now I'd feel like I'm violating him. I gave him the only juice I had in the house, peach?? Of course he drank it like it was God's gift (they never get juice) so we'll see. If not I'll try some a laxative. I'll give my doc a call to see what he suggests. Thank you ladies!!

This is what I do, along with doubling up on their fruit intake.

ground flax seed or flax seed oil is supposed to be good.the ground flax seed is starting to show up in the natural sections of most grocery stores. you can mix it into things and they never know. things with magnesium like pears and mango. the mango is really easy b/c you can buy it already chunked and frozen in a bag at most grocery stores. my girls loooove the mango.
