Natty has become very attached to a stuffed animal. I have dd's attached to blanket before but not to a stuffed toy. It is the only one of it's kind in the house and they have been discontinued. Should I go ahead and buy the two that I have found online or just hope she outgrows it before it dies an ugly, unnatural death from it's stuffing being squished out. It's starting to show some signs of wear at a couple of "joints." I'm afraid it's head may not stay on forever.

If they're not expensive, sure, why not :) You can keep them in the closet in case of emergencies!

But be careful when you bring out the new one. They're keen to our tricks. DD1 was attached to a pillow (one of those fill in the blank birth certificate pillows). She carried it EVERYWHERE and always had it with her. After many washes and months of wear, it was falling apart and kinda grungy..wouldnt' come clean at all. So, I bought her a new one. Same pillow, just new. She then HAD to have the "yucky pillow" and the "clean pillow" every where we went! We never got rid of the yucky pillow until we got rid of both pillows. :p Good times. Good times.

maybe if you can tell her when you give her the new one that you are going to fix it and make it like new then give her the new one. i would definately buy the new ones. you never know if you will need it.

Haha, I got the boys new loveys to replace their old ones (stuffed animal heads with those blankets attached) and like mentioned above, they wanted the nice and yucky one. So, now they have two each. AGGHHH!

I agree, it's always worth having a spare. Also you can avoid the new/old problem by starting to switch them around now (while the original is still in reasonable condition) that way they will last longer and there will not be such a marked difference in them that she can tell them apart.

Evan is hooked on a stuffed dog. I bought a back-up, but now he's into sleeping with both! So I just ordered a third from ebay and I'll keep it aside for emergencies.

I would buy it too, if it were in my budget. we have 2 of rachel's lammy and it's nice to reach in the closet and get the "extra one" so the one can go in the laundry, or if it's missing and I just want to get them in bed quick, etc.

I think if they are attached to them, and will take up with a new one, sure why not!

I would definately buy a new one. My DD has a baby doll that she is very attached to. She treats it as if the doll were real and this baby goes everywhere with us. Last summer the doll went missing. I still don't know what happened to it. I couldn't find the same one in a store, so I thought I would let my DD pick out a new one herself. She did, she named it, she loved it, but she still cried for "Anna". So I found the same exact doll on-line on Ebay. I "won" that auction (there was no way I was going to lose that doll!!!!) and told my DD that Anna had called and was away on vacation. My Aunt chimed in that Anna was at the spa and would come home in a few days looking better than ever. So, for the next few days we talked about Anna being on vacation at the spa and getting "refreshed". When the package finally arrived, I opened (while DD was napping) and when she got up I told her Anna came home. My DD took Anna back but you could kind of tell she wasn't too sure about the "vacation" and "spa" thing. :FIFblush: She did accept the new Anna and we talked about how nice she looked after her stay in the spa. We kind of think she knew what was up, but we never wavered from our story and after several days my DD didn't question the new one at all. We still talk about how Anna went on vacation last summer.

My suggestion is to buy the extras, but when you decide to replace, just replace it. Don't let your DC know that the old one still exists. Try some story like we did. Good luck! My DS has two lovies and we don't have a replacement for either. Fortunately, he only needs his lovies when he goes to bed, so neither one leaves the crib very often. I shudder to think of what will happen if one of those comes up missing.

I might be in the minority and not buy it. John has several stuffeds he is in love with and one already "died". He did ok with it and found another to nestle with. Its up to you though.

Get them!!!! My older one is 4.5, and there is no end in sight of her attachment to her loveys. We're on numbers five and six, incidentally....(we have two that we swap out in the laundry). The first four got really beat up, and had to be retired...

Make sure the new ones are really identical to the one you have. Gund changed the tags on their stuffed animals from embroidered to printed, and my DD *freaked out* when I tried to give her a new one on the sly, because her habit is to suck her thumb and rub the tag....I ended up ripping out the tags from the old loveys and sewing them on the new ones!

Thanks ladies. My oldest two dd's are totally hung up on their blankets. The oldest still sleeps with hers but it's a totally different one than she started out with. Same sort of knit but the old ones were so gross that I "lost" them when we moved. My second dd is 8 and is still sleeping with her "old pink blankie" that her grandma crocheted for her. There isn't much left of it and it's been through several repairs. I'm afraid it will not make the next wash every single time it goes in. This stuffed animal thing is a little new to me and as long as the older two have had their blankies, I know this is going to last a while. Luckily, she is pretty good about leaving it at home but insists on it to sleep. I'm sure the two I found are identical to this one because Carter's completely changes their toys every six months or so and the only one similar to it, is still very different.
Thanks for the advice... I'm off to ebay to "buy it now" before the bidding starts to get hot and heavy.
