I know I need to check with my doctor, but I am just wondering if anyone has any suggestions to soothe a sore throat during pregnancy? My doctor has given me a list of approved medications for just about every ailment you can think of... except a sore throat! Any clue about throat losengers? Thanks!

Tylenol is safe for you....that may help ease the soarness....also, this is what my mom had me do when i was a baby and even now i still do it. We would put Vicks all over our chests and throat at night and then i would use an old dish towel and a baby pin and pin it around my neck instead of getting it all over my shirt and it also keeps it warmer and closer to your neck which is what helps. Also, my grandma suggests the old remedy of putting like a cloth bandage type thing folded up with nutmeg and vicks mixed together right in the hollow of your throat. Weird but it actually works over night for me. The Vicks helps to clear out your throat as well as the nutmeg too.... I know what a weird person you are thinking but..... it helps.. Also, if you run a vaporizer or humidifier with vicks vapor in it, that may help also. Other than that, i think you can use the regular brands of any types of losengers. Drink pleanty of water and (like grandpa always says) gargle with salt water.... gosh we must be an old fashioned family. Hope taht helps

Thanks! I will definately try the vicks and wrapping it! I had a babysitter do this once when I was young, but I couldn't remember what it was she put on my neck! I have been gargling with salt water, and I think it will help, but it sure does taste awful!

One yummy thing to soothe your throat for a few hours - heat some water and put some jello in (as much as you like for taste) and drink. I am not a huge fan of tea and this tastes good and really helps ease the pain for a bit. Good luck and feel better.

You could also try gargling with warm salt water.

My doc told me to suck on life savers instead of the medicine lozenges. She said they have the same effect.

Thanks! I am definately going to try some of these tricks! Of course I didn't start feeling really terrible until the weekend! I just moved here from a large city where walk-in clinics were on every corner, but here there are NONE!!!! I will have to try the tricks until the doctor's office reopens Monday!
