I am so embarrassed I even have to post this.

My lovely husband was on a the phone with his best friend last week and DD was playing in the room next to where he was. He totally dropped an F-bomb and you can guess what happened. DD heard and did repeat it right then and then nothing came about it... until today when she was trying to get a puzzle piece into the correct place and got frustrated and yup- you guessed it dropped an F-bomb in full blown irritation and disgust with herself! :icon_eek: I about DIED! I mean on the one hand I couldn't believe she remembered the word and on the other I was disgusted as DH and I do not curse and obviously since having kids we generally are VERY careful what we say around them. DH was even so mad at himself when he realized she was right in the next room and had heard him. So please do not think we find this OK- we don't!

But now I don't know what to do? Do I ignore her (which I did tonight)? Do I tell her it's a bad word and draw more attention to it? And what if she says it in public around family and friends?! I will DIE!

I don't know what to do! Please help!

I think ignoring is the first thing to do, and if it keeps occuring I would just gently say that that is not a nice word and we don't use them. Hopefully she'll forget!!!

They are little sponges and repeat everything!!!!!

We've had similar situations at that age, ignoring is best. If they get a reaction, gonna do it all the more.

Its different now the girls are 4 we can explain about appropriate words, but 29months, not gonna understand.

At this point I would ignore it. If she continues to use it, I would remind her that's not a nice word.

I heard this from a friend of mine: when she said a bad word in front of her kids, she would immediately start naming words that rhymed with that word. For example: if she said "he!!" she would then say "fell, smell, bell, shell." Her kids would then repeat the last word she said (shell) instead of the bad word.

This came up another time and I posted about not making a big deal out of it and was completely in the minority, most said to be very upfront about how wrong that it is and to punish etc etc. Interesting responses so far. Kayla did this with JC, in context with the 'right' tone of voice and everything. I have no idea how she heard it but gosh she definitely knew what to do with it. Anyway, I told her that those weren't the best words to use and we came up with words that she could use, we decided on ohhhh mannnn. It took a couple times of reminding for her to use the ok words but she got it!

Thanks for the suggestions and encouragement. At this point I am going to ignore it and so far she has not said it again... I hope it remains that way!

I was jay-walking across a 4 lanes of two-way traffic and got caught in the middle. There I was, stuck in the midlle with cars coming in both directions, no median, frustrated I yell Fu**! A nice man ended up stopping and letting us cross but as I was strapping Emily in she siad Fu**, Fu**, Fu**. I went to drive the car thinking OMG what am I gonna do now.

I ignored it and she never said it again. I would ignore it and hope it goes away as she doesn't hear anyone else using it. If it continues though then you'll have to deal with it. I do admit your situation is a little different because she used it 'gramatically correct' and later. I personally would still wait and see.
