What to do when babies are too heavy for carrier seats

Right now if I'm running into my chiropractor's office or somewhere without shopping carts, i have been carrying the girls in thier carseats. Well, they are quickly getting heavier! I was wondering what you moms did when you changed from the carrier car seats to the ones that stay put in the car. Obviously you'd have to get the kids out of the car seat to bring them in. Do you rely completely on the stroller when it's someone that doesn't involve a shopping cart? I just can't imagine a baby on each hip while running into places. But it also seems crazy to always have the stroller. I guess that's prob what you do though? Any tips??

I used the stroller a lot. This is definitely a downfall of having multiples. With 1, I used to put them in the sling and go. I would carry them everyonce in a while but the stroller was the easiest.

We started to use the stroller at 12 weeks. The boys hated the carseat. Now they are so heavy that we leave the carseats in the car all the time and carry the boys to the car. Yes, it is a pain, but no different than the convertabe seats that they will use at 1 year!

We had a Graco double stroller that we could put the carriers in, so we used that early on as not to carry the carriers as often.

Seeing as we're putting DS into his convertible seat this weekend (DD is still only 17 lbs..) we're facing the same thing.. I'm thinking the stroller will be easiest. We have an umbrella sbs stroller for quick trips. :)

I use my stroller a lot...tried a few times to just put one on each hip, but it was impossible to do anything that way. For a while I was putting my lighter DD in a sling/bjorn and DS in a single umbrella stroller, but it's just as easy to put them both into the double stroller. Now that they are walking I can hold one and hold the other's hand, but the stroller is still much easier as far as keeping them contained if it's a quick errand. :search:

I never went anywhere without the stroller until they were about 3, with the exception that they started walking in & out of daycare on their own feet at about 18 months. The up side is that you can also use it to carry your gear!

I would put one in a front carrier and put the other on my hip for quick errands. it took 2x as long and 2x the effort to have to get the stroller out and strap thm into/out of that etc as well.
Experiment and see what works best.

Stroller all the time, every time! Rarely go without it! Part of the reason I love my combi, it's so lightweight I don't mind hauling it in and out of the truck! :D

Stroller all of the time when I am alone. Ours outgrew their carrier car seats around 6 months. It was a pain to get used to at first, and I dreaded going out. Now I can practically do it with my eyes closed. Just get a nice stroller you feel comfortable using a lot. GL!

I used the stroller all the time. If it was somewhere that I was concerned about the size of the stroller, I would sometimes use my single stroller & put one in a sling while pushing the other. The one on each hip thing rarely worked for me because then you have no hands!

I always use the stroller. Unless I am lucky enough to have my sons with me. If that's the case we just carry the twins, but that rarely happens. My stroller is a life saver.

My boys out grew their carriers before 6 months so I have used the stroller EVERY day since then. You really get quick at the stroller routine if you do it frequently enough. Even now that the boys can walk and hold my hands, I need a free hand to pick things out AND my diaper bag still weighs a ton so I use the stroller almost every time we go out.

My boys are still in their carriers (one bonus of having skinny babies) but I am trying to get into the routine of using their stroller for outings - we bought a peg perego aria for quick trips. Everything is just going to take extra 10-20min now.

We still use the stroller all the time. Not so much for transporting, but mostly for containment :)

We switched to the non-bucket carseats which I'd been dreading! I loved the convenience of the bucket seats (Graco Snugrides) and the double Snap n Go. But my two outgrew their seats at nine months old (heightwise at 29 inches) so we had to get the convertible carseats (they'll be rearfacing hopefully till at least 18+ months old). We've just been using their stroller to go places. There is no way I'd try to carry them as they're both at 20lbs or close at 10 months old.

What I'm dreading is winter! We have nasty winters here in MN - snow, ice, and VERY cold (not uncommon to get -30 below windchills!). Ugh. Also when it rains, what to do so they don't get soaked but I still have to go into the store, Dr's, etc. Ugh.

Once their necks are strong enough you might try one in a front carrier and one in your arms.

I have the stroller a lot, if not, then I have one in a bjorn and on in my single stroller which I am starting to do more and more. It is just lighter and easier, to lift out of the car and maneuver through doorways. But if it is a doc appt or something, I have to bring that double.
