Hey there! I have a few quick questions about feeding solids and formula. My twins are 7 1/2 months old and currently take four 7 oz. bottles during the day and as far as solids go, they eat a tiny bit of oatmeal with fruit for breakfast, one stage 2 container of fruit each for lunch, and each a stage 2 container of veggies for dinner. Is this too much or too little?? Everytime I ask a pedi. they give me a different amount of formula intake for this age and they always say, "feed them until they're full". I don't want to overfeed them. My one DD already weighs 20 lbs. and I am paranoid that she is overweight. It doesn't help that people always comment on her weight!!

    Thanks,
    Jen

Hi Jen, I don't have any advice on the feeding schedule because our babies are not quite there yet (4-1/2 months), but our little girl is already 19 lbs. and thriving--I wouldn't let people's comments about her weight get to you. As long as she's healthy and your pedi isn't concerned, that's all that matters - sounds like she's doing great!

Sounds about right to me. That's about where mine were then and even now we eat one 5 oz bottle in the morning before breakfast of 6 Tbl. of oatmeal mixed with one jar stage 2 or 3 fruit, shared. Rest of the day, they get 3 8 oz bottles. Lunch, they share a stage 2 veggie with oatmeal or mixed grain cereal and a stage 2 fruit. Supper, they share a stage 3 dinner, a cut up veggie (green beans, carrots, or peas), and some fruit and puffs, toast, etc.

sounds about right to me. I have little peanuts and they eat slightly more then that. I am sure you are NOT overfeeding!

You are definitely not overfeeding. My twins are almost 8 months and have 4 bottle of 8 oz a day, plus jarred food (fruit and grain) for breakfast, meat and veggie jarred food for lunch and meat and veggie (2 jars) for dinner. It sounds like you are right on the money!

Sounds right to me. My girls get between 24 and 30oz of formula plus two solid mealsl. For each meal they either spit a stage 2 container of fruit or veggie, or split 1/2-3/4 container with some cereal mixed in (rice or oatmeal).

I totally feel you! I'm still trying to get a feel for WHEN to feed them WHAT! Mine are about the same age, and my lil man is 22 lbs (she's only 15), and I get so many comments...some people don't even think they're twins.

He takes 4 8 oz. bottles and she does 4 7 oz bottles...my dilemma is WHEN to feed the solids...right after a bottle or inbetween....

My boys are 7 months and here is what they eat:
breakfast - up to 4 tbls. of Rice cereal each and a stage 2 fruit each - 6 oz. bottle
lunch - stage 2 veggie each, split a fruit, 6 oz. bottle
snack at 3 - 6 oz. bottle and split a fruit - we are working on juice in a sippy cup.
dinner - stage 2 veggie each, split a second veggie and try for a fruit - not always successful, then 8 oz. bottle before bed.

**They rarely finish all of these bottles. I used to let them have as much formula as they wanted before the solids, but then they wouldn't hardly eat a bite. I let them have about 2-3 oz. of formula first, then load up the food and then they finish the bottles if they want. They always drink all of the 3 o'clock bottle. I can't seem to get them to eat a meat for dinner. One cries every time I put it in their mouth. The boys are 17 and 18 pounds, so it sounds like yours are doing great.

Good morning! My other quick question is when to feed them their bottles/solids. Do you give them a bottle first and then immediatley following a solid, or vice versa. Or do you wait a bit between each?

    Thanks,
    Jen

We've done it both ways.. Bottle wait an hour then solids, but at our 6 month appointment our ped suggested we do solids first and then bottles because the girls weren't eating much solid foods but were taking more than enough formula. However, this way isn't always recommended especially if your kiddos aren't taking a lot in their bottles... their primary source of nutrition should be bottles right now. I know this doesn't answer your question.. so sorry!!!

Mine are 6.5 months... My boy is 18.5 pounds and everyone acts like he is huge, wll compared to the 3.5 pounder i brought home he is. I am not concerned at all... Savannah is 15.3 pounds.
They BOTH eat solids twice a day - brunch -- each have 1/2 stage two of fruit and veggies, dinner same things again... They actually always take 5 bottles a day from 6am till bedtime... Beau - 8 ox and Savannah i do good to get her to eat a 5-6 oz... They are healthy and that is all that matters... You are not feeding too much they are fine. :) I had a hardtime figuring this out and i always feed in between bottles so they can rest their tummies and always take their bottles. :)
Good luck... Just think if we knew how to be perfect as a mother we could write a book and make millions, we all have to learn our own kids and you are doing a fab job... :) Dont let people and comments get to you... ;)

ETA: at night i feed them , give them a bath and then we do the bottle before bed... ;)
