Ahhhhhhhh, I haven't posted on here yet since my girls birth. I just don't find the time yet.

Anyway, they were 3 weeks old yesterday and they are having SO much gas now. They are on Similac Advance. I tried the simethicone(sp?) gas drops and when I used them they spit up something fierce!!

    Should I try switching formulas?

I have some Similac Isomil RTF soy formula left from my dd. Should I try it?

    Thanks for any advice.

I'd ask your pediatrician.....you might need to switch them to soy

Zoe had gas SO BAD when she was born. I was doing formula, but she was still getting a good amount of breastmilk, too. We tried the Similac, but we actually ended up liking the Enfamil a lot better. A lot less foam....which I think might contribute to the gas. We're now on the Enfamil concentrate, but that was b/c of constipation issues.

Anyway, have you tried the Gerber brand of the gas drops? I don't know why, but they worked a LOT better for Zoe than the other brands.

Also, there's something called Gripe Water which I've heard works really good for gas. I have some, but never had the chance to use it. (By the time I bought it, she kind of grew out of her gassy stage.) Another thing that really helped for us was to be VERY diligent with the burping. Even stopping 1/2 way thru the bottle to burp, and then again at the end. Usually she'd burp 2 or 3 times if we kept going & that seemed to help a lot with the gas.

I would try a few other things & talk to your pedi before switching to soy. Good luck!!

I know I am using the Similac Advance with Omega and Iron and we are having a lot of problems with gas as well. Joshua and Olivia are 8weeks old today and they seem to take forever to burp and sometimes do not burp. I have tried Gripe Water but it is not always somethign that works, from what I understand it will help to break the gas bubbles down in their stomachs to stop them from getting gas pains.

You can try gripe water, but I would hold off on switching to soy unless absolutely needed. They make milk-based formulas that are easier on the stomach and your pedi can recommend the ones he thinks would fit your needs (ie, gentlease, good start).

I just say that about the soy, because I don't think that every kid that has gas problems with formula need soy (although I'm not a MD nor an expert).

I personally did a little reasearch on the Lipil stuff and read a lot that that caused gas, I know that pedi's are very pro-lipil, but my kids are normal and didn't have it. Just talk to your pedi. I bet the Nestel Good Start or Enfamil Gentlease might help.

Mine have been eating a soy formula since they were 2 months old, but they still had a lot of gas - to the point where they would cry out in pain and then pass gas. I talked to the pedi EVERY time we went b/c I felt so badly for them! He said that babies have a lot of gas no matter what formula they're on b/c their digestive system is so immature and that over time they will learn how to pass it, and it will not bother them. One thing we did was to start using distilled water. We had been boiling tap water, but the distilled seem to help a little. We also burped them after about every 2 ounces and gave the Mylicon drops (although we used a generic brand) before every feeding. I read a post on here that someone said they would put the drops in the bottle to help break down the bubbles. Maybe you could try that instead of giving it to them directly. I hope it gets better soon!

    Mylicon drops & Dr. Brown's bottles...lifesavers.

I use the mylicon drops between feedings. I was giving them right after the feeding, but my son would spit up, so the Dr said to do it between feedings. I am using Similac advanced too & tap water (our pedi said unless there was something wrong with the water to use tap because it has flouride that babies need). Just be sure to talk to your Pedi before switching formulas because sometimes that can cause more problems (just what I have heard from other mothers). Good luck [IMG] Hope it gets better

Joseph had gas really bad about the same age, dr said to try the soy and we went from gas to constipation AND gas. Mylicon worked wonders- I just put it right in the bottle so it was diluted when it hit his stomach- did the trick and no spit up.

Poor baby- I know it is terrible to see them uncomfortable even when it's "only" gas. Hope he feels better soon!
