I am trying to hammer down my approach to this whole 3rd nap refusal thing. I find it easier to put them down for the third nap and withstand the screaming that ensues if I am confident I am doing the right thing.

    SO

When your babies' were/are in the 5/6 month age range...

    1. When does their final nap end?
    2. Are they taking a third nap? If so, when does the second nap end and when does the third start?
    3. What time is bedtime?
    4. What time is wake - up time?
    5. How long do you let them fuss for this final nap before giving in?

Mine are ending their second nap sometime between 2:00-3:00 depending on the day. I am trying to put them down 2hrs. later but sometimes that makes the third catnap start at 4:30 or 5 and that just does not seem like an easy time to get them to sleep. As I posted previously they have fought like crazy all week and I am this close to giving in. That are; however, absolute nightmares by 5:00 and I really do not want to put them to bed at 6pm. As it is they go to bed around 7pm and one wakes at 6am :( and one at 7am.

    Thanks,
    Amy

**** THEY JUST WOKE FROM THEIR SECOND NAP AND I AM ALREADY HAVING ANXIETY ABOUT THE THIRD NON-NAP AND SCREAMFEST!!!

between 5 and 6 depending how long the first two naps were

    2. Are they taking a third nap? If so, when does the second nap end and when does the third start?
Yup we do a third nap.. still!!! Second nap ends between 2 and 3 and third nap starts between 4 and 5

    3. What time is bedtime?
    between 7 and 8

    4. What time is wake - up time?
    between 6 and 7

    5. How long do you let them fuss for this final nap before giving in?

if they are fussing it means they really need to sleep. I will let them fuss for about 10 minutes and then go pat or rub backs as necessary.

    Hope this helps, Leighann

    1. When does their final nap end? Around 3.00 pm
    2. Are they taking a third nap? If so, when does the second nap end and when does the third start? Nope; second ends at around 3.00 pm
    3. What time is bedtime? At that age it was 6.00 pm
    4. What time is wake - up time? 7.00 am with one feeding somewhere around 5 am.
    5. How long do you let them fuss for this final nap before giving in? Quite some time ... it's the second (and longest) nap, so I'll easily let them for an hour (and then let them sleep a little longer 3.15/3.30 pm if necessary), however that hardly happens.

What is a nap???? We don't even try a nap when I get home from work. They eat cereal at 5:30 and then immediatly a bath, bottle and bed. I have no clue about the nap thing because my mil could care less if they nap on any sort of schedule. My girls do wake up around 7am and within an hour they are ready for a nap though. Good luck and hope you can figure out what to do.

I think we're getting ready to drop the third nap too. It has been a major battle all week to get them to sleep for only 20-30 minutes and I'm beginning to think it's not worth it. But... they just started sleeping great at night and I HATE to change anything that might mess with that!

    1. When does their final nap end?
    between 430-500
    2. Are they taking a third nap? If so, when does the second nap end and when does the third start?
Yes, second nap ends between 130-200, I try to put them down at 400 for the third nap but for the past few days it has taken them until 420-430 to fall asleep.
    3. What time is bedtime?
    bedtime is at 700
    4. What time is wake - up time?
wake up between 600-700am - no more night wakings - finally!!!
    5. How long do you let them fuss for this final nap before giving in?
I come really close to giving in but I know they will be a nightmare if they're up from 200pm to 700pm and I don't want to move bedtime up because we've tried that and they wake up earlier in the morning.

    Good luck Amy!

(Just wanted to add... I wake them up by 200pm to make sure I can get that third nap in. Maybe you could try and shorten their second nap if you think that might help them with their third nap??? Just a suggestion!)
