What time do your 16 month olds nap?

My boys are 16.5 months and about a month and a half ago we moved to one nap. We used to be able to put them down between 10:30 and 11:00 if they got up between 7 and 7:30. Now they will not fall asleep for anything. It seems like it is just getting later and later. Today they finally fell asleep at 1:30 or 2. I am getting so frustrated, because I have one crib that has a changing table attached to it, and whoever is in that crib they can crawl out and onto the changing table(they just get up there and stomp around), so it's not like we can just leave them in there and hope they fall asleep. Also I always fed them lunch after their nap so now I don't know when to feed them, I end up taking them out of their cribs and feeding them hoping that if they are full they will sleep. It's a mess!!!

Mine were still napping twice at that age, going down between 9 and 10 (45 minutes) or so and then back in bed at around 1 pm until 3 pm. Going to bed at 6.30-6.45 pm, waking up 6.30-7.00 am. Still stands as of today except the morning nap (dropped at 18-20 months) and they take their afternoon nap a little earlier (12.30 pm) on most days.

They eat lunch at 11.30 am - noon, dinner at 5.30-6.00 pm.

Reading your story, I would try to drop the morning nap and put them down around 12.30-1.00 pm and see what happens. Most kids drop the morning nap at age 15-18 months.

We started the transition to one nap at 15 months. It took about a month or more for us to move it to 12:00. The girls still nap at that time. Sometimes they too will take a while to fall asleep.

We switched to one nap at 13mos. I fed them lunch at 11 and they went down at 11:30 til 2:30. At 16mos, they were going down at 12 til 2:30. In your case, I'd keep them up, feed them at 11 or 11:30 and put them down around twelve. I'd also get a crib tent or figure out a way to remove the changing table so you're little monkey will be safe!

My girls are the same age as your boys. They get up for the day around 6:30 and go down for a nap at 11:30ish. We feed them lunch first then it's straight up the stairs to sleep. They nap for about two hours. Bedtime is 6:30 and they're usually asleep by 6:45 or 7 at the latest, so we have about 12 hours of sleep at night and a two hour nap. It sounds like your nap is just too early in the day. Also, I agree with the other posters, you've got to do something to keep they away from that changing table. Perhaps a crib tent. Or could you remove the crib from the changing table - are they bolted together?

The changing table is actually part of the crib, so there is no way to detatch it. It is a convertable crib so I don't know of any crib tents that will fit it. We lived in a downtown loft when we first had the boys and it was a huge space saver, but now it is just a huge pain in the butt. It's the Christina crib-n-changer combo by Simplicity in case anyone is ever thinking about getting it you can reccomend against it!!!! Luckily my boys are pretty agile but we stack pillows and blankets on the floor, knock on wood they haven't fallen. I have to sit outside their room and listen until they fall asleep and go in and take them down off of it when I hear them get up there. Can anyone recommend a crib tent for a convertable crib?

    Ericka,

Before we switched to one nap their schedule was - wake at 7:30, first nap at 10:30, and second nap at 2:30 with a 7:30pm bedtime.

Now that we have switched, I dropped the second nap and moved the first later. Now they go down at 12:45 or 1pm and Jack will sleep until 3 or 3:30. Lily is a bad example because she does not need much sleep and will only usually sleep until 2:15 or so.

They still go to bed and wake up at the same time.

In order to move the naps around I first moved them back to 11:15 or so and then the next week I jumped them to 12:30. Now we are sort of moving closer to 1pm.

HTH and I hope it works itself out!

    Ericka,
We have been much happier since we moved to the one nap a day schedule a few months ago. My boys eat lunch around 1130 and go down for nap around 1230. They sleep for 2-2.5 hours, I always wake them up by 3:00 if they're not up by then. They go to bed for the night at 7pm and sleep till 7am.

We also have the simplicity cribs that are convertibles and we're using crib tents on ours. I have told everyone that crib tents are the absolute best purchase I ever made for these two guys. They can't stand up and throw things out of their cribs, they can't climb out, they really have no choice but to lay down and go to sleep. The tents don't fit perfectly because of the way the crib rails are, but we made them work. PM me if you want me to send you pictures and tell you how we set them up.

Mine get up late, at 9:30-ish, so they eat lunch around 12:30 or 1pm, and go down for a nap around 1:30 or 2pm. They're up by 4:30 or 5pm, and then they go to bed at 9:30pm.

I know we're sort of freakish with our late schedule, LOL -- but it works for us!

We are almost 19 months and still take 2 naps, but reading your post made me think, why not try to feed them lunch around 11:30 and then put them down for a nap? GL!

My boys are nearly 16 months. Here's their schedule:
    6:00 - wake (If I'm lucky)
    7:00 - breakfast
    11:30-lunch
    12:00-1:30 nap
    5:30 dinner
    6:30 - bed.

I'm actually trying to push bedtime later as I'm scared of the upcoming daylight savings but for now, this is what it is.
