What time did you have your twins 1st birthday party?

...and looking back, was it a good time?

I was planning to have it from 1-3pm but realized that's probably not a good time since they nap during that time. Should I start it at 3pm? If so, do I need to have dinner? Their b-day is in July so I wanted to have a picnic outside with hotdogs, hamburgers, wraps, salads, etc.

My boys birthday was the end of June. Their party went from 12-5. I started it at noon because that gave me the morning nap to get ready, once they were up, we gave them a snack. Around 2 they were getting tired, so they went down for a nap. When they woke up, we did cake and presents.

We had the girls party at 12:30. Do it when it's the best time for them. We had a very large party so we had dinner, but it's up to you really. DH's cousin had their son's first birthday party with just cake & ice cream, literally! Our party was at the perfect time for them, we got there, met everyone, ate, had cake & we were done. We didn't open gifts until we were home, too much for them. Have fun, that's the most important part. We had it catered for ease & it was at a hall.

I think we had ours at 3:30 for their "friends". It only lasted until about 5. It was just a playgroup type thing on a weekday afternoon. I had our family party on a Sunday night at 5:30 I think.

We just had ours in Feb. and I had it from 4-7 pm. That is the best time for my twins. Normally I don't like to have parties at meal time, but since they are only up for 2-3 hours between the morning and afternoon nap, I figured the best time would be late afternoon and it worked very well.

I wouldn't do their party during their nap time, you don't want cranky babies at their own party. If you start it at 3 you wouldn't technically have to serve dinner if it would be over around 5ish, but if you think it will last longer, I would probably serve hotdogs and such, since you are planning to have it outside, around 4:30 or so.

We did it at 12:30. the last guests left at 9:30! The kids didn't nap although we tried putting them down. They had a ball with all the people here. They went to bed around 7:45 and really weren't cranky. I guess we have a couple of party animals!

We did it at 3:30 (after naps), and it was mostly adults with a few kids (cousins). That gave us time to play, and then I served dinner. We then had cake, opened presents, and put the kids to sleep by 7pm. Then in the evening, the adults were able to hang out and have a few drinks! [IMG]

I think it was around 4. We planned it for after their last nap. It worked out well. I think they ended up going to bed a little later, but they were ok with that.

We set the time from 2-4. We knew that people would (a) not come on time and (b) stay longer. My daughter stayed awake the entire time. My son woke up around 3 or so from his nap. So...they both played and ate themselves silly.

Ours was 2-6. The girls slept until around 2:30 and then joined the party in progress.

We had ours at 3pm. It was perfect timing,. Like I planned, it started right after nap/snack and was over at a reasonable hour to start the bed time routine.

We did 12-2. They got a morning nap and then were back down by 3-3:30. It was great for us and we just did any easy lunch and birthday cake.

We had friends and family at our house and I believe that it was at noon until 4. They did well, they were a little cranky by the end but I don't remember them napping during the party.

My girls were born the end of June, so their 1st b-day last year was perfect. We sat everything up in the garage b/c I didn't want all the kids to have to be out in the sun in the backyard.

I did do lunch for everyone. It was stressful for me though. We had about 40 people (including kids) and it was crazy. Looking back, I would've never invited that many, but it was fun!

We had the party from 12-2. I didn't have too many other option. At a year, they were napping from 10-12 and 2-4 and then in bed by 6:30. So, we did noon and they ended up staying up until 3 to open presents and stuff and everyone wanted to see them, but they were EXHAUSTED!

    That's what time I'm having the girl's party (3pm - ?), because they nap from 1pm - 3pm.

We just had ours...we did 4pm. They actually were asleep when family arrived, so we got to eat dinner without bouncy a baby on our laps!! That gave me the whole day to prepare and with all the people and activity, they never got into their normal nightime fussy stuff.

We had brunch. It worked perfectly for us because the girls took a morning nap in the stroller with my parents from 9-10 or so. They were out of the house so DH and I could get ready, then were awake and happy for brunch. We ate, opened presents, then put them down for naps and everyone else left. I wanted to keep it small and relatively short, which it was -- I didn't want to overwhelm them or myself. We only had close family and a couple of friends -- about 12 people total (plus a few kids). Even then, the girls were definitely a little shy.

The only thing that was a little odd was having cupcakes at 11 a.m. -- but we managed. [IMG]
