What size clothes are you buying for your twins? I can't decide if I should go with preemie or newborn. My mom got the boys a set of preemie onsies ond wow those are scary tiny.

Well if they are born early you will need preemie clothes. My two were in preemie clothes until they were around 8 lbs. Even my oldest DD was swimming in 0-3 month clothes and she was 9 1/2 lbs when she was born. You may want to have preemie and newborn just to be safe.

I am getting preemie things as my single was tiny even at full term and wore the preemies for about a month.

I'm getting NB size in a few things and 0-3. I figure if they are small enough for preemie, I can have someone run out and get them before we go home :)

My twins were 5lb2oz and 6lb1oz at 38w4d (they were kind of small) and they wore preemie clothes until about 2-3 weeks. Now at 4-5 weeks, they fit in newborn clothes, but 0-3 months are still big! They are about 7 pounds-ish now.

I think they'll be in newborn for a couple weeks still!

I don't want to intrude, but I notice your babies were small. My son was 6 lb 5 oz. How did you deliver (vag or c-sect)? I am due end of February and anticipate they will be small also and I am debating on which way to go. Right now baby a is head down and baby b is head up. I just don't want to have alot of tears etc. I hated being swollen down there and having to use the water bottle every time I went to the bathroom.

    Thanks

I really liked the Gerber "Just Born" onesies, the twins wore those exclusively for the first 3 weeks, then could fit into newborn sleepers, they were 6 weeks old before they could wear any 0-3 outfits. Both babies were over 6 pounds at birth too. I remember bringing newborn sleepers to take them home from the hospital in and they were so big it was ridiculous.

We bought a few preemie things, hoping we don't have to use them. If not, no big deal, I will take them to used baby store and then they will be there for someone else. We right now have clothes ranging from preemie to 1 year. My sister in law has had two boys, and so we are getting tons of clothes from her, along with clothes from other family members who have boys who have saved everything. When I have bought stuff, it has been the preemie things and newborn. I think this is going to be so different from my girls, who both when born were just over 9 lbs. Seeing all these tiny clothes is something else lol I figure with the preemie stuff, well if they are too tiny they are going to be in the NICU, and then I would shop for more things, so not fretting over it.

I'd buy what you feel you should. You can keep the tags on and have someone return them if they are too small.

I only bought 0-3 months because my ob told me my boys could have been the size that my oldest was if I went to 40w 9.12. I had them at 36w3d and they were almost 7 pounds each. Yes the clothes were a little loose but they grew into them quickly. By, june they were in 6 month clothes.

I brought both a preemie and a newborn outfit for the twins when they were born at 37 weeks. DD was 4lbs 14oz and DS was 5lbs 7oz. My mom ran out to walmart and bought us preemie clothes to last about a month before they really fit into their newborn clothes. The good thing about living in the United States, everything is really only a store away and if you find you need something, you can just go get it :)

I didn't have any preemie stuff when the kids were born, just lots of newborn and 0-3 from my shower. Mine were born at 36w3d weighing 5lbs 8 oz and 5lbs at birth, and we did run out and get some preemie stuff when we got home from the hospital. They didn't last too long in preemie stuff though, because my kids were tall, so even though they weren't filling them out in width, they were filling them out in length. I say, if you can afford to, buy a few outfits before hand, or if you have family close by, wait till they are born, and see if you can send them out for a few things.

What we did buy and not use was preemie diapers. We figured we should get them since they were wearing preemie clothes, but they were kinda small, and my DS was peeing out of them. The pedi said it was just better to go up a size in daipers.

    Good luck!

I'd get newborn and then a few preemie things. If the babies are early, you will have time to go get preemie clothes before the get out of the NICU. You can also buy preemie clothes closer to the end of your pregnancy, keep the tags, and then return them if they are not needed.

I had a couple days notice before delivering my babies so I bought a few lots of preemie clothes on Ebay. They were there by the time the babies were discharged at 7 and 9 days after birth and I spent about $40 for 2-3 months worth of clothing.

I used the gerber just borns size onsies for a while(at least the first month) and mine were close to 6lbs when they were born. The Newborn size was huge on them for a while and mine were born at 37 weeks. I would buy plenty of newborn stuff but if it is cold where you are I would buy some preemie sleepers that was all mine wore for a while I wouldn't buy preemie outfits because they just don't wear them, I always wanted mine in comfortable stuff. If you want one cute outfit for pictures I would wait to get that until you have more of an idea as to when you are going to deliver. Good luck with everything.

I would suggest getting at least a couple preemie outfits each. My girls were born at 35 weeks exactly and they weighed 5lbs even and 6lbs even. Even some of the preemie stuff is too big for the 5lb'er. The newborn stuff are ridiculously big on them.

I had preemies and I still didn't buy too many preemie clothes. They grow so fast, that its wasn't really practical financially for me. I would wait and see if you need them and then buy them. If you do want to go but preemie stuff, I agree with the PP and keep the tags on them until you know for sure if you are going to need them. Good Luck!

    Thanks Everyone!

I think I'll do mostly new born and send my mom out if I need preemie. My DS was only 6 lbs 9 oz when he was born (38 weeks), he's still very tiny to this day. He was born in april and I still have all of his clothes so I'll just add a few neborn things.

Cada thanks for the advise on the diapers! I hadn't thought of what size to buy yet.

I had preemies but I still did not buy preemie outfits because it seemed silly to buy clothes that they would only wear for a couple weeks. So I opted to buy a few newborn items instead (from Gap and Carters) and we got a little more use out of those items. The first couple weeks they were swaddled around the clock so it really didn't matter what they had on underneath!

I would get a few preemie things maybe not outfits but definitely sleepers and onsies. My boys were each about 6lbs at birth and didn't fit into newborn stuff for a few weeks.
