Right now dd is wearing pampers #4's & ds is in #3's!! Ds is in the 95%'tile for weight & dd off the charts! :D

It's not as if they are being overfed. They eat every 3 hours having about 4 ounces, sometimes 5. Not big eaters at all, so I guess it's just the formula.

MIL comes back from her stay in Bulgaria tomorrow night, she'll most likely suggest me feeding them water when they wake up at night. She did this with my husband & his twin brother when they were babies.
Have any of you been feeding your twins water at night? I remember reading that it's not advisable to give young infants water as they get enough while b/feeding or in their formula. But now that I've started solids, should I not give them water & formula to satisfy their thirst?

I think the water at night thing has been suggested by some to wean them of their night feedings. The theory being that they want the formula or bm and will therefore stop waking if it isn't offered. In terms of during the day, I am sure some peds would say it was fine. My pediatrician told us that there was no need for additional fluids b/c at that age they are not really eating for calories but for taste and experience so they shouldn't be getting more thirsty. I always nursed my son, gave him solids and then offered him the breast again just in case he was thirsty. I didn't start water until the end of his first year but that was going on what my ped at the time said. ALl pediatricians are different. Ours now says no solids until 6 months yet our son's pediatrician at that age had us start at 4. My point is that there are all different opinions out there! I am sure you will here them all.

I think we were in 3's at 4 months. I would hold off on the water until they get it from a sippy cup. I started sippies at 6 months.

Hi there! I have Ellie in size 2 during the day and size 3 at nights, and she's 14lbs. The size 2 mostly because we have a lot left, but I'm not buying anymore since she fits into size 3 fine too. Henry in size 3 during the day and size 4 Huggies Overnights at night (the only thing that would stop the leaks!), and he's 17 if not 18lbs.

Mine are eating 4x a day between 7-8oz, and they are getting solids once a day "for practice". Although I'm hoping it's somewhat filling them up because I don't want to have to go back to 5x a day or a nighttime feeding!!!

I must have really tiny babies, because they are still in Size 1 swaddlers. :(

Well I must have teeny babies too because at 6 months, they are still in swaddlers size 2! They were probably swaddlers side 1 at 4.5 months. At 4.5 months my DD was 11lbs 4oz and my DS was 13 lbs. Six month checkup this week. Can't wait to see how they've grown!

We were in Swaddlers 2's at that age....

I've never heard of water feedings. We have just gotten out of night feedings about a month ago! Honestly I never tried too hard to stop them until both had quit breastfeeding. Once we were all bottles, it was a different story. Rather than giving them water, why don't you just offer less and less, until you are sure they don't need anything, and then hopefully they'll either quit waking, or when they wake, just fuss a little and go back to sleep without you having to go in there..that's what worked for us.

Mine were in size 2 Swaddlers at 4.5 months. They're just moving up to size 3's right now. I'm using up the 2s that we have during the day, and definately using 3s at night. Both of my girls weigh about 14.5 pounds right now. I think they were about 13 pounds at 4.5 months.

Mine are 3.5 months old and DD is in 2's and DS in 3's. She weights about 13 pounds and him about 15.

If they're only having 4 ounces every three hours then I think they still need their night time nutrition. 4 ounces 4 times a day (if you only want to be feeding them during daylight hours) is not enough for most 4 month olds. Once you get up to 6-8 ounces in your daytime bottles your babies will likely stop needing to use all 24 hours to get their nourishment. At least that was my experience. No night feedings since 3 months for Evan and 3.5 months for James.

Mine were just officially weighed yesterday -- Karina is 14 lbs 11 oz and in size 3 Cruisers, and Kevan is 12 lbs 12 oz and in size 2 Swaddlers.

And, I second what CHJH said -- mine take 5.5 to 6 oz. five times a day, and nothing at night. No water.

At 4-5 months mine were in size 2 pampers swaddlers. About 5 1/2 months we went up to 2-3's because they were leaking at night. And now at 7 1/2 months we are onto size 3 cruisers, but they really can still fit into the 2-3's during the day I'm just too lazy to buy two types of diapers.

As for water, we just started sippy cups with a little water when we feed them (just last weekend). Until then we would give them solids, and then offer them a bottle of formula (but I know some doctors recommend doing it the other way, bottle then solids.. our kiddos are great at drinking bottles and weren't taking much solids so our doctor said to try it the other way at our 6month app). We never gave them a bottle with water. If you want to try to stop the night feedings, we were told to gradually decrease the amount of formula you offer in the bottle.

I have never heard of water at night. I don't give mine water during the day in a bottle. Probably wait till they can drink it in a sippy. When mine wake to drink at night they will drink their full 6oz, so I figure they still need it.

Right now we wear a size 2 pampers baby dry in day and a size 2 luvs at night. I have been wanting to try some of those huggies overnights, but can't find a size 3 around here yet.

How do you get them to eat that much at a go? I sometimes give them 5oz, but they don't want the extra formula.
    Any advice?

Peyton is still in size 1. But I think we'll be moving up to size 2 here soon.

    Diaper question:

At four months mine were wearing size 2s, then at 6 1/2 months moved to 2/3 swaddlers and now at 8 months they are solidly in a size 3 (for about two weeks now).

    Feedings:

Mine were never big eaters. Only took 4-5 ozs every 3 hours at 4 months and we still had two night time feeds. By 5 1/2 months dropped one night time feed but they were still doing 4-5 oz every three hours during the day and getting dinner (cereal/vegetable). At 6 1/2 months they started 6 oz bottles every 3 bottles and stopped getting up at night (had breakfast/dinner also). Now at 8 months, they bf in the morning and get breakfast, take 8 oz midmorning, lunch, 8 oz mid afternoon, 8 oz in the evening, supper, and bed.

When we use sposies, they are in size 2. But the 2s just fit, so I am thinking the next time I buy sposies will probably be size 3.

Mine were in Pampers Size 3 at 4 months. The boys are 6.5 months and we just started water in a sippy cup. At 4 months, I think it is reasonable to expect they might be getting up once still for food at night. Ours weren't at that age but we had big boys and they have been good sleepers but not the case with all kids. I would probably not do the water at night in place of the formula. Not until they are eating more during the day, at least. Good luck!

we are still in 2's and we are 7 1/2 months!

I'm pretty sure we were in 1's at 4 months.

I do know around 4 momths my girls dropped their night feeding and began to sleep straight through the night. I've never heard of water but I have heard babies eat out of habit, not because they are hungyr. I've heard of slowly decreasing the amount and soon they wont' need the feeding. That's hard to do when nursing though!

    Good luck!

I've got one in Size 1 for day and 2 for night, and the other one in Size 2 for day and 3 for night.

My great aunt was trying to tell me that they needed water, but I had never heard that before. I read they get enough from their formula....by the number of wet diapers I change in a day, I believe it!
