What questions should I ask on the hospital tour?

    I'm having the twins in a different hospital than I had my son so I'm going on a tour of the maternity floor next week. What questions should I remember to ask? So far I have:
    1. What are the NICU policies?
    2. Will the babies be with me in recovery after my c-section if they don't need to go to the NICU?
    3. Are cameras allowed in the OR?
    4. Is there a pull out chair for my husband to stay with me?
    5. What is the parking situation for four days?
    6. Do I need to bring shampoo/soap?

    What else should I ask?

    You have a pretty good list there Marisa! Maybe you can ask them what visiting hours are for your friends and family? How many days you will be staying assuming everyone is doing good {I think hospitals are different, not sure.}

    You have a good list of questions. The only other question I would add (since they don't really discuss the NICU too much during the tours) is - what is the visitors policy in the NICU area? (hopefully this won't be something you'll need to know but just in case).

    One of my girls was in NICU for 5 days and if any family members wanted to visit Madelyn a parent had to be there with them. Well we didn't find out until the 3rd day that if we put 3 family members names on the list and they received a wrist band, they were allowed to visit Madelyn on their own without a parent present. That really helped. :D

    Also, if you're planning on breastfeeding - do they have a lactation consultant go into your room to assist you? Do they rent pumps there? (in case you don't want to buy one until you know for sure how the BF goes). Just a thought.

    Good Luck! :D

    You have some great questions already. I would also ask what level NICU they have. Hopefully you don't even have to worry about that, but depending on how sick your babies are they may require a higher level of care.

    Thanks. I know already that the NICU is a level three, so that is good. Good idea on asking about NICU visiting and breastfeeding consultants. Thanks!

    I would ask about private rooms. Our hospital still has 2 pts. per most rooms. I work there so I get a private but boy after giving birth the last thing I want is a roommate.
